“Maybe they did, but that’s all they know. Maybe I’ll have a meltdown soon, maybe it hasn’t even completely registered in my mind that I have nothing, I don’t know.”
“You don’t have nothing,” he said softly.
“You’re right. I’m healthy, I’m alive, and I have you as a friend.”
Axl smiled then and walked toward Aspen. He kissed the top of her head. For a brief second, the knot in his chest loosened. “Go shower, you kinda smell.”
“I do not smell!” She smacked his arm and glared at him.
“Your breath does,” he said, covering his nose with his hands as he backed away from her.
