They didn’t tell me exactly why they wanted to see me, just that I should present myself at the administration office. As I crossed the pediatric hallway, something unexpected happened. I stumbled upon a little blonde girl with green eyes; her face was pale, and she seemed to have difficulty breathing. I reacted instinctively and grabbed her arms before she could fall to the ground.

The monster noticed immediately and took a few slow steps closer. "Babs!" Keira screamed. She tried to run to her, but her legs refused to move. Fear pinned her in place. The monster loomed over Barbara and lowered its head to examine her. At that moment, the young men who had pushed her broke for the door. The monster's head snapped toward them. Its amber eyes locked on as its mouth curled into something close to a smile. Two young men slammed into the ground before they reached the exit. The monster had barely exerted itself. It did not need to.

She's so close! Then I find myself falling down a hill. Sky hugs me close as we roll down it but then I hear a loud crack. I sit up and see Sky limp and in a daze staring up at the redness above us. At the same time, the yellow grass around his head starts to turn a dark crimson. Before I can get to him, the monster appears next to him stroking his hair. "Shh... it's alright, my precious pup. Why did you run away? I'm your mommy." She picks up Sky making him whine in pain.

He had been tracking my scent trail for blocks. “What are you doing blocking a Dominion path, Blackwell?” I demanded, drawing my shoulders back as my claws partially extended. “I’m tracking you, Chika,” Ronan murmured, dropping the glowing ember into a shell casing on the floor. His voice carried an uncharacteristic, desperate vibration that grated against my instincts. “The Blood Moon cycle marks your birth date next week. What kind of tactical steel or illegal firearm do you want? Name the supplier and I will seize it for you.”

But in front of other people, she let the first monster speak as if the leader. The third member of the monster team was only a little older than the cub that he had been watching all week. “Watch them carefully. They will get you.” The voice inside my mind had warned in it’s deep gravelly voice. I asked it if it knew what was going on. But there was no reply. So I was watching them. It was not the simplest decision whether to stay with the female and young one or to follow the male stranger and the big monster. But that deep scratchy voice inside told me, “we need to see what the big monster is doing.” So I listened and saw them go down into the basement. The passage through the walls does

"Let’s go figure out how to stop a werewolf-vampire alliance — before they drag your name through the mud and set this whole city on fire." I stood beside him, my expression hardening. "Let them try," I said quietly. "I hunt monsters like them for a living." James just grinned, and together, we started preparing for round two. The flames engulfed the monster and the undead screamed and plummeted toward the ground below. The second monster reached for the child, fingernails long and curved like the huge talons on a harpy eagle. The little girl screamed and screamed, the sound grating on Damonq as she threw herself to the opposite side of the blue dragon, away from the monster. Her hand slipped, and she shrieked again as she dropped into space. Damonq caught her in his arms. Instantly she began to fight.
