​Thorne’s POV ​The aftermath of Sub-Level 9 left a metallic, scorched taste in the back of my throat that no amount of synthetic rations could wash away. The Hub was humming with a different frequency now, a nervous, jagged vibration that mirrored the restlessness of the people living within its iron ribs. We had brought the three zealots back up to the medical bay, but they were no longer the people they had been.

I had heard rumors of people awakening abilities on the same day the zombies became a thing, but I hadn’t believed it until the very end. But now, I had awakened, and it was a week earlier than anyone else. I needed to know more about my new powers. So, I walked to the bedside table, picked up the coin, and threw it on the other side of the room. But this time, when I willed for it to come towards me, I noticed a strain in between my eyes. I somehow knew I could still do it, but it would take much more out of me. That meant there was a distance limitation, at least for now.

" I walked out of the bathroom, closing the door behind me. I felt a slight throb in my hand, but my mind was already moving to the next move. My phone was smashed on the patio, and a decoy laptop was currently melting Mark’s server. I headed to my room, reaching into a hidden compartment in the headboard for my *real* device. He felt a very different energy when he reached the seventh level. The first six levels had relatively peaceful energy suitable for absorbing and refining into True Energy. However, the seventh levely had much more violent energy. James felt a trace of the scorching energy entering his body. However, the energy did not cause him any harm. His physical body was sturdy, and able to absorb all sorts of energies. The violent energy was ineffective on him. ‘I probably can go further to the eighth level,’ thought James. After mulling it over for a while, he went to the eighth level.
