Ophelia ducked the second, slamming her palm against its head and activating her memory disruptor. Tobias scrambled for cover, launching a neuro-blast that flickered through the air like lightning. But Mira didn’t move. She just watched. And smiled. “You’re not ready for what’s coming,” she said. “None of you are.” Then her body turned to light—and vanished. The remaining mirror copies fell to the ground like broken puppets.

Kazan blocked another strike. “I saw him.” “Of course you did.” “I did.” “You were facing the other direction.” Kazan knocked his attacker to the ground. “I still saw him.” Mira rolled her eyes. Even in battle, she could still do that. She moved at his back. Her power flashed like silver fire across the courtyard, wrapping around weapons and forcing enemies backward without burning flesh. Kazan trusted her completely. He didn’t need to look behind himself. Mira was there. That knowledge gave him something the crown had never understood.
