I only had a chest full of blue light and a brother I couldn’t really remember.
Elaine walked slowly toward the gates, guards on either side of her, no chains, no weapons, just the clothes on her back and whatever strength she had left after the quarry.
“You don’t have to watch this,” Elena said, standing beside me.
“I want to,” I said, echoing her own words from earlier on.
Elaine stopped at the gate. She turned back, looking at all of us gathered there, Elena, Xander, Caleb, Talia, me. Her eyes moved over each face slowly, like she was keeping track of information.
