Too bad because I'd have worn one. He has two books on his nightstand. One is a business book that I'll admit sounds thoroughly boring. The other is Lincoln and His Admirals by Craig Symonds. I've read several Lincoln biographies and other books about the Civil War but not this one. I pick up the hardcover and hate the fact that my Nook reader is back in my apartment. I'd love nothing more than a good murder thriller right now.

I could have read it a thousand times” She smiled sadly, she saw him reading the book once at the library. The next day, she borrowed the book and kept reading it until it became her favorite book.

“You're one of the strongest people I know. That's pretty fucking special.” My throat tightens. “You barely know me.” “I know enough.” His hand comes up to cup my face. “And I want to know more, everything.” “Everything?” I try to laugh, but it comes out shaky. “That's a lot of boring medical facts and romance novel opinions.” “Tell me anyway.” He settles back, pulling me with him. “What's your favorite book? And don't say a textbook.” I smile despite myself. “Okay. Um…Pride and Prejudice, probably. I know that's cliché.”

“You mean besides bridges and roads?” “Yeah, girl, give me something juicy.” “Everyday stuff. He likes comedies and action movies. He’s always reading some book or another. His favorites are thrillers, but he also reads boring nonfiction—biographies and stuff like that.” I tilt my head as I recall some of our conversations. “And when he talks about those boring books, they aren’t boring. He even listened when I told him about what I was reading or about the latest trends in prom dresses or midriff tops. Not just nodding—well, because we were on the phone—but actually listening. He remembers what I say and asks questions.”

We’ve covered everything and I had nothing else to ask him. His favorite food was steak. He didn’t have a favorite book because he couldn’t decide between a couple of them. If he had to choose, he would probably pick The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. He didn’t have a favorite movie. He couldn’t choose between the three movies in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He loved Lord of the Rings. I knew everything, and I didn’t need to know more. I didn’t want to know more. I wanted this to be over.

He looks impressed, “Your mom tells me that you love reading. What’s your favorite book?” I glance at Mom, her face turning pink while Lacey looks down at her plate and starts eating. “I like E.L. James, Carly Phillips, Harper Sloan, and Nora Roberts. I’d happily curl up with any one of their books.” He frowns, “I’ve heard of Nora Roberts, but haven’t read any of her books, the others I can’t say I’ve ever heard of them.” “Oh you’d have heard of E.L. James, she wrote Fifty Shades Of Grey.” Lacey pipes up, and I watch in amusement as Harrison’s face falls as he realizes exactly what Fifty is all about. “What about you, Mr. Brady, do you read?”

“And a book? I have tons of books in the study room, but which one will you get?” “Yes,” I smiled again. “The Art of War.” He smirked at me, closing his eyes as he whispered the title. “The Art of War…” He opened his eyes. “Did you know that it’s my favorite book? Why don’t I just buy you a new one?” I shook my head. “I preferred that one because of your own notes, Mr. Mars,” I remembered how he carefully underlined the words and wrote some notes on the white spaces of the book.

He asked worriedly and I opened my eyes to see him standing in front of me, his eyes searching mine for answers. “Ah, I’m good, you don’t have to worry.” I say, looking at his hand and smiled “You like reading too? That’s my favorite book.” I say, pointing at the book 'We should all be feminists’ “Ah really, it’s one of my best read. Chimamanda Adiche. I read some of her other works and loved it.” He says, smiling fondly at the book and fuck. Butterflies again. “I didn’t know you like reading, you don’t strike me as the type. How come I didn’t know?” I asked, smiling softly at him even though he couldn’t see me.
