I just thought—” “I haven’t tried to open one before but I’m sure I can do it if I want to. You won’t find her in Hell though” I said with all manner of seriousness

"How dare you speak about my father that way, you trashy little—" "What?" I cut her off, raising my voice. "I'll speak however I want about you and your insane father. I don't know what you've done to her but I swear I'll fuck you up and get you back for it," Rebecca's face contorted into an ugly mask of rage. "You ungrateful fool My father is a great man who has done nothing but look out for this goddamn city!" I scoffed at her words, almost laughing. "Didn't realize your father was Batman," I mocked.

He asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “I think its free for me to call you daddy when mommy is not here, hehe!” he giggled. I smiled, pulling him into a hug. “Of course, champ. You want to be a Superman or maybe a Batman tonight?” He giggled again, choosing both. “Super-Batman!” he declared with a grin. Celine entered the room and approached us. “Guys, I’ll go ahead. Buddy, come here. Kiss, mommy!” she said goodbye.

When I picture family I think of Matteo, Giana and even Enzo, though I will stab myself before I ever admit that. There are a couple of doors but I can only hear screams from one. Its a sick but welcomed distraction from my feelings. Enzo as if sensing my presence comes out of the door. He is way younger than me but definitely more mature. He is always stoic like batman. I clear my head ‘like batman’ I can’t believe that even crossed my head, nope Giana should go back to school. I blame all of the batman and Robin cartoons she made me watch.

I smiled at my cleverness. My new name was going to be Soraya Wayne. Like Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. I couldn’t remember much of the movie, I only saw it once. We didn’t watch TV much in Wane Hall. Residents were usually out working or in their rooms. It’s not like we had family time on Saturday nights in front of the TV. I didn’t resent it; it was just the way of things. You couldn’t miss what you never had. That was another thing I was good at pretending about; I didn’t miss family time. The reality is, I could try to pass it off like I didn’t care, or didn’t miss what I never had, but it was always all around me.

“Take it!” I jumped off and grabbed it in my teeth and pranced away victorious, my tail straight up proudly. Following the first scent back again I found the blue eyed boy digging into the dirt with a stick. He looked up as I whined again, and his eyes widened. “My Iron Man!” He held his hands out as I walked over my tail wagging. Carefully I let go as he took his toy back. “Iron Man is really Tony Stark! He doesn’t have powers, so he fights bad guys with a suit. Like Batman!” He explained. “Hey, want to play?” He asked, blue eyes sparkling.

Once, the darkness teased him while they were strolling in Taguig, told him that he had a ‘type’, making it seem like all the men he chose – and even the women he looked at – looks exactly like ‘him’. The same fluffy blackish-brown hair, the same soft pleading eyes, and the same rounded cheeks. That was awfully unfair. That wasn’t the darkness’ fault. The darkness only looked the way it did because he had given it that shape. He chose what he wanted to see, and he wanted to always see a shape of ‘him’. ‘Do you remember,’ he asked, ‘when only you were just darkness and shadows?’ ‘Jett,’ he chuckled as he replied in a deep voice, ‘I am the night. I am batman.’
