She said in suggestion. Herzl nods and gets up from the couch. Lisa follows him to his bedroom, where he gets to change into his pajamas. Then they sit down on his bed and Lisa begins to tuck him in. As she does, she asks. “Do you want me to tell you a bedtime story?” “Yes, please…" Herzl uttered, his eyes already beginning to droop as he lay comfortably on his bed. Lisa thinks for a moment before replying. “I'll tell you the story of the three little pigs.” She enounced. Herzl's eyes light up, and he gives a sleepy grin.

I said with a small laugh. The remaining nighttime was spent in bedtime routines and warm baths, in stories and toothbrushes. Mirabel insisted on one of Clinton’s old bedtime tales — something about a crocodile and a mango — and I fumbled my way through the story while they giggled under their covers. When they finally dozed off, I stayed a while longer in the hallway, just watching them sleep. Japheth curled toward the window. Jake, hugging his teddy. Mirabel, one leg dangling off the bed as if dreaming of her little bride walk.

I picked him off the floor and walked us to the bedroom. "Can't I stay up for five more minutes?" Adrian asked, his beautiful jade eyes shimmering in the glow of his Power Ranger night light. "No, baby, you have school tomorrow," I told him, getting into the bed beside him. "How about a bedtime story?" "Yes!" he squealed excitedly. I chuckled and brought out my phone. After a few pages of the children's book I'd saved on my Kindle, Adrian was fast asleep. Plugging my phone in, I settled beside him, stroking his dark hair away from his chubby face.

I said assuringly. “No. I don't wanna stay alone." She begged, dragging my wrist. Realizing that there was no other way I could leave the room, I came up with an idea. ‘I’m going to tell her a story until she falls asleep!’ "Okay, Marissa, you know what? I have enough stories to tell you, tonight! Do you wanna hear it?” “Yes!" She answered enthusiastically. "Then, climb into bed ASAP!” I said eagerly as both of us crawled into bed, throwing the covers over us.

Just then, we heard little footsteps approaching and bringing our make out session to an abrupt end just in time to see Cassy standing by the door way with her stuff bunny in hand. I pushed back on my feet as I made to go to her while she stood there rubbing sleep away from her eyes. “I can’t sleep!” “Why can’t you sleep little pumpkin” Alex said, picking her up and into his arm. “mother forgot to tell us our bedtime story”. Alex fake a gasp as he stare back at me. Unlike her brothers, Cassy likes her bedtime stories and sometimes have a hard time sleeping if I don’t tell it to her. “How about I tell you that story pumpkin” Cassy gave a curt nod and he took her back to their room. While he c

Micah cracked one eye open and grumbled, “Where’s my bedtime story?” Adrian scooped him up, kissed his sandy hair. “I’ll tell you one.” Zaya reached for me, sleepy and small and safe. I carried her inside, her head tucked under my chin — her soft breaths a promise that the future could be gentle, if we let it. We lay curled together in that tiny beachside cabana, the windows cracked open to let in the hush of the waves. Adrian’s voice drifted through the dark, telling the children about two wolves and two sisters and the lie that became a truth that saved them all.

“Seriously Ashley, I might get upset if you go through my messages.” “Dumb boy messages, just let go of me, I don't care anymore.” “Promise?” “Yeah.” She scoffed and he did, she didn't try taking the phone again and he lay beside her. “You should be sleeping, it's late already.” “I know and am exhausted, but I can't seem to fall asleep. Can you tell me a bedtime story?” “Bedtime stories are for kids, not twenty-one-year-olds.” “Just tell me one.” “Okay, I don't really know much so how about I tell you the story of a demon who has lived for over a thousand years.”

I whispered with a loving smile, "which story would you like tonight?" Mathew's face lit up with excitement, his tiny hands reaching for his favorite book. "The one about the brave little wolf, Mumma!" I chuckled as I opened the book, a captivating story about a young wolf's grand adventure. Mathew listened with rapt attention, his eager eyes fixed on the pages as I spun the tale of bravery and exploration. By the time I reached the part where the little wolf found solace under the silvery glow of the moon, my son was already fast asleep.

The sky is dark as we make it to the front door, ushering a tired Brandon inside. "It might be a good idea for you to head to bed, mister," I say to Brandon, who yawns widely as I make the suggestion. He nods, not even bothering to protest, which I take as a sign that he's exhausted from his busy day. I glance over at Evans. "Is it okay if I take him up?" "Go for it," Evans says, nodding. I get Brandon in bed, and he falls asleep only five minutes into tonight's bedtime story, in which Ralphie the sheep has joined the lion and the dinosaur on their adventures. As soon as I'm certain he's out, I stand and turn off the lights, slipping out into the hallway.
