The old woman’s head even turned toward the window before she looked back at Vera, stunned and almost breathless. Vera patted her hand and smiled. “The babies are special. They can talk. You can hear them.” Belinda’s confusion melted so fast it almost hurt to watch. The widest smile Vera had seen since she arrived spread over the old woman’s face, softening every line of exhaustion and anger at once.

Veyra laughed. "They are." Lucas climbed onto the edge of the bed. "How is baby?" Veyra placed a hand over her growing abdomen. "Baby is fine." Althea approached quietly. "Can I talk to her?" Veyra's eyes softened. "Of course." Althea carefully sat beside her. She placed her little hand over the baby bump. Then she opened her book. It was a simple children's story about the moon and the stars. She began reading slowly.

A subdued silence enveloped the fireplace after Shango’s story, interrupted only by the occasional chirping of the night crickets. “That does not count as a bedtime story,’’ Babybaby finally found her voice. “It is child,’’ the thunder god answered. “No it’s not’’ Babybaby insisted quite stubbornly. “bedtime stories are supposed to be a nice tales with happy ending, all bedtime fairytales are, like the ones Amaka used to read to me, this one is a stupid story.’’

Samantha’s POV All around me, a sea of people moved with grace, draped in pristine white. An all-white garden party. This baby shower filled me with warmth; I couldn't wait to finally hold the little one we’ve been longing for these past two years, the child who would bring a million joys into my life. This was David’s idea, a celebration he said symbolized the purity of a new beginning for our small family. The scent of blooming white roses from every corner of the garden filled my lungs. Instinctively, my hand stroked the large bump of my belly, feeling a subtle movement from within that never failed to make my heart flutter.

“I can hear the baby talk.” Dante leaned back slightly, lips parting in absolute awe. “Wow.” He rubbed his face. “I’ve seen strange things, Annie, but… this one? This one is new. New-new.” They both turned to Alpha like he might have some confirmation.” Alpha exhaled, shoulders dropping. “This is a story for another day.” Dante turned to Kael "I can't believe the baby that's supposed to kill us died, and then we risked our lives to bring back the baby so the baby can be able to kill us...I mean I love how dramatic this family is.

The baby needed a father, too. Wearing loose pajamas, Alanna sat on the edge of the bed. She held an Auritanian novel in her hand. Hades walked to the bedside and hugged her. "What story does our baby want to hear today?" Alanna glanced at the fairy tale anthology in his hand before saying, "She actually doesn't understand anything. She just likes to hear your voice." Hades looked at Alanna. "Can I read it to you? Just like when you used to read to me in Junaris."

Sometimes she would sit for hours with her hand on her stomach, feeling the movements, marveling at the miracle of it all. Caleb talked to the baby every night, pressing his face to her belly, whispering stories and songs. He told the baby about the valley, about the pack, about the family waiting to welcome it. He told stories of Luna and Ayla and Kael and Hope. He told stories of Damon, of the sacrifice he had made, of the legacy he had left behind. "She's going to be a warrior," Caleb said one evening, laughing as a particularly strong kick made Elara gasp.

Visiting Home Again Hayley's POV After leaving my room, I decided to give my babies a final goodbye before leaving. So I walked back to the nursery and pushed open the door, peering at Dora who was cooing the babies. The sight warmed my heart, so I crossed the room, scooping Aurora into my arms and pressing a kiss to her downy head. "Hey there, my little princess," I murmured. "I see you like Dora already. I assure you you'll love your grandparents, too. Because Grandpa has a lot of stories to tell you while Mama is away." I cooed her and she smiled at me.
