Andre’s eyes fluttered, then closed.
Mandy’s hand flew to her mouth, tears slipping down her cheeks.
Pedro exhaled, tension draining from his shoulders. Dr. Isaacs watched in astonishment.
“It worked,” the doctor whispered. “Astounding.”
Mandy crossed to Mrs. Parsons and placed a trembling hand on her shoulder. “Thank you,” she choked out. “Thank you.”
Mrs. Parsons only nodded, eyes wet as she continued to rock the quiet infant.
Mandy sank to the floor beside the cradle, folding her legs beneath her, watching the boy sleep in fever’s lull. A single twist of fate had given her that calm: the name of Aliyah Haven—the woman who was nowhere and everywhere in this room.
