I allowed Jagger's animal instict take over as Ash joined the brawl with the rogue Chance, both of whom were tossed aside by a sweep of the wounded Dragons tail We continued putting some wounds on him but nothing that caused significant damage until he appeared to faulter slightly and let out an angry roar. "Sage must have broken the spell." Rori's voice sounded in my mind link as I instantly felt the mate bond flood back in its full strength and whatever had been cloaking and blocking our wolf connection between me and Kayda instantly repaired. Drakos' eyes flew to a hole in the side of the building where my mate now stood. I saw the air shimmer around her as she shifted into a large pinkis

She sighs heavily, “hell, we don’t even know all that did happen yet.” I give her a weak smile, “I know, something big must have happened for my mother to shift.” She looks at me, “the roar,” her eyes widen, “that wasn’t a wolf Christov.” It’s not a question but a statement. I bite my bottom lip shaking my head, “no, she’s a dragon, a golden dragon, she’s rare and will only shift when it’s dire.” Her eyes go wide, “dire?” She pushes off me, “Christov, what would be dire for her to shift in front of so many people?”

These were dragon clan envoys, here to offer wedding gifts. By now, Prince Horace Montgomery must have regained his power, ready to claim Marina in gratitude. In my previous life, Marina, on a cruel whim, had sent me to the hills to pick flowers for her. There, I stumbled upon a man lying wounded and unconscious. I meant to heal him to sate my serpent urges, but when he woke up, he handed me a relic, revealing himself as the Dragon Prince. He sent word to his clan, declaring me his concubine.

I laugh at my little Wizard of Oz reference. “Your missing dragon shifters, but yes, they all exist,” replied Cece. Wait, tiger and dragon shifters exist. That is so cool. I love tigers, and dragons are badass. Or at least in my mind, they are. So, in werewolf books I used to read, they are strong, fast, and have super healing powers. Can we do that?

Scotch burned trail gold, obsidian devouring every swallow, power humming balanced edge. Night deepened, bodies orbiting with no collision, but collision was inevitable. His hand ghosted spine trace absent—shiver traitorous. "Sleep," he ordered, soft menace, pulling me into the lounge plush without resistance. No fuck tonight—torture purer, proximity dominance submission unspoken. Dreams twisted Rourke's snap, Darius's grin fading peace, Kenji's obsidian guarding shadows. Blood ties bound us, visceral, dark romance, an empire forged in violence and want.

No one could explain the reason why I couldn’t age like the rest of the elementals. The stories my grandfather told me as a child were filled with warnings about dragon-shifters. According to him, if a dragon-shifter did not unite with their true mate, they would become a dragon permanently, losing their humanity and moral compass. This transformation was irreversible, and they would no longer distinguish between right from wrong. None of my grandfather’s tales mirrored my current situation exactly. I wasn’t a dragon-shifter, but I was desperate to avoid succumbing to the darkness within me. I was willing to do anything to prevent the fate—even if it meant seeking out a mate.

“Inspiration doesn’t wait. Besides, you say things too good to waste. Like the coffee brooding? That was gold.” He shook his head, a smirk tugging at his mouth as he ordered two coffees. We grabbed a corner table, Goose still stealing glances from half the café. “So, what’s this book about?” Ace asked once we sat. “Cat shifters,” I said without hesitation. “Epic romance. Sarcastic hero, rambly heroine, lots of claws and passion.” Ace raised a brow. “Sounds familiar.” My cheeks burned. “Coincidence.”

“Yeah, you know the ones that I was helping Kaylani and Everett find and save? I’m thinking that there must be more of them.” “Why?” I ask him. “Because there is no scent at the scene of the murders and only the blood of the victim. There’s only one type of shifter that I know is strong enough to kill other shifters that easily and is also capable of hiding their scent, and that’s a dragon.” I look down again, my throat so tight that I know I’ll never be able to swallow any more of this steak. Ishir has no idea how right he is.

Pyralis had sent Galeus, Maccha, and Fordin to stake out the ranch again, the one with the original dragons, learning that even more shifters have arrived. He chose them because Truda can’t fly and Banari is still collecting his harem, although we’ve learned something interesting. If the ones with Komodo dragon bite the humans and they don’t die, they turn. Their shift is even more hideous than the others, but they’re no longer human. That means that Pyralis and Galeus have started creating their army, while Banari is still impregnating every fucking female in his harem. He’s a sick bastard that one. Well, they all are really.

Should I let him? Not thinking, I throw open my door. “What am I to you?” In unison, they said, “Mate.” I abruptly slammed and locked my door before I pressed my forehead to it. Mate? How? Oh, fucking god! I pulled out all of the historical books in my room and some of my romance books too, because some truths are hidden in fiction, if you are willing to read between the lines. Did I miss something? Based on my understanding, dragons only have fated mates and mate for life like penguins. They can have a chosen mate but that bond is broken when they find a fated mate just like most shifters. Are The Trio not normal dragons?
