We started talking about dragons, and we found out that we had a lot in common. We both liked fantasy books and movies, we both liked drawing and writing stories, we both liked animals and nature.

She took the book from Vida’s hand and playfully kept it out of her reach. “Hey!” Vida giggled. “Stop it, Tessa. You’ll get my page messed up.” Tessa would not actually lose Vida’s progress in the book. She still sensibly kept her finger where Vida was reading and turned to take a look at the cover. “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief,” Tessa rolled her eyes. “Ugh, again? How many times have you read this book?” Vida looked up and actually thought about it. Fantasy books have always enthralled her. There is something about these stories that make her fall in love a hundred or maybe even a thousand times.

"Books. What do teenage girls read?" She stared at me. Then smiled slightly. "Romance, mostly. Fantasy. Some contemporary." "Which one?" "Which... which genre?" "Which book?" She looked at the shelf. Pulled one out. "This one's popular. My daughter loved it." I took it. Looked at the cover. A girl. A sunset. A title I couldn't pronounce. "And this one." She handed me another. "This is her favorite series." I took that one too.

"They are not as fun to read but as I have had dealings with a witch coven recently I figured it would be best to research them. For fun though, I like to read fantasy books so that I can get lost in a new world." He brings me to the fantasy section and I just stare at all of the amazing pictures on the front of these books. Forgetting that I am looking to read the books I pick one out judging by the picture alone. It shows a guy riding on the back of a golden dragon while another dragon breathes fire at him. "That is actually the second book in the series. Let me get you the first book and then we can come back for the second once you are done reading it." He helps.

She was getting bored. She went into the study to search for a new fantasy book. Alberto, her brother, added a new collection after fifteen days. He knew his sister loved to read fantasy books instead of love stories. She was running her fingers over the queue of the book's titles. "Twilight, Dead Beautiful, The Kiss of Deception, Relentless." She whispered the names of the titles, "City Of Bones," She pulled it out from the queue. She hadn't read it.

“This one weaves mystery and magic, but underneath, it’s a story about trust and power.” Her face softened. “I’ll take it.” As I wrapped the book, another man stepped in, younger, sharp-eyed, dressed in a rumpled suit. His gaze swept the shelves with a hunger I recognized all too well. “Looking for something… thrilling,” he said, voice low. I leaned forward slightly. “Try The Silent Corner, it’s about secrets that change everything.” He nodded, brows furrowed, then murmured, “Secrets change everything.” The bell jingled again. A teenager, headphones around his neck, glanced nervously at the counter. “Uh, do you have any fantasy? Like with dragons?”

It was the only time that I had felt any margin of peace. Now though as the ship moved out of port all of my peace had disappeared from me and crying, I lay my head forward onto the bed as I emotionally jerked out, “Oh God, please help me!” Why was this happening to me? I always did things by the rules. I was a good person. I didn’t deserve this! Why was God letting this happen? Immediately Bible stories came into my mind. One in particular of three young boys cast into a fiery furnace. They’d been good boys.

Those are the species that I am most interested in right now. Excitement courses through me as I make my way to the fictional section. This section is way smaller, only filling up a small fraction of the entire bookshelf. It seems our boy Ethan has a clear theme he is most interested in. Most of the books are about dragons, and the remainder have titles relating to war. Although I am not necessarily a pacifist, I am not particularly interested in reading books that contain wars. So, I pull out a book named “Princess Aria”.

Eventually, with my arms full, I found Nicholas still in the fantasy section. He was engrossed in a thick hardcover, his brow furrowed in concentration. “Find something good?” I asked, approaching him. “Possibly. But I think you might like this one.” He handed me a paperback with an image of a woman wielding a sword on the front. I read the title aloud. “‘The Lycan Chronicles.’ Hmm, never heard of it.” “It’s a fantasy series,” he explained, still flipping through his own book. “Great world-building, complex characters...” He glanced up and smirked. “Plus, it has some... steamy scenes.”
