But as I continued walking, the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching me.
My finger hovered over the elevator button, but before I could press it, a loud clatter echoed through the hallway, startling me into a yelp of fear. Whirling around, I frantically searched for the source of the sound, my pulse thrumming in my ears. But the hallway remained empty.
With trembling hands, I jabbed at the elevator button, desperate to escape the eerie silence of the building. The doors slid open with a whoosh, and I practically dove into the elevator, punching the button for the ground floor. But to my horror, the elevator refused to budge.
