Kavira glanced between us, then nodded. “I promise.”
Her mother’s shoulders slumped in relief, eyes shining. We stayed a few days, gathering strength, knowing what awaited us would demand every ounce of it.
“I hate to say this,” I murmured, staring into the crackling fire as we all gathered, “but we have to go to Iskareth Hollow, the home of the dark witches.”
A sharp silence followed.
“What?” Kavira choked out, nearly dropping the piece of potato in her hand.
