For a brief moment, I felt a flicker of pride that he was handsome, but reality quickly set in, and I almost cringed. “Noah, pleased to meet you,” she said, extending her hand. Noah offered a nod and shook her hand, his grip firm but cool. Samantha smiled warmly and said, “We were just talking about how good your father has been to you, Dianne. He really seems to have treated his stepmom well.”

Steven said, holding his head in hands. “Hold that thought.” She said, walking over to her wardrobe and throwing a T-shirt on. When she came back to her seat, Steven King didn't even look up, his head was still in his hands. She rubbed the small of his back saying nothing until he groaned and then placed his head on her lap.
