"We cannot keep this baby! We barely have enough feed us without having to take a foundling in! What were you thinking Robert?” Robert’s wife said.
Robert sighed and stared at his wife. He knew it was fear talking and for good reason. The years of struggle had begun to be etched on her face
The Moon Goddess and the Sun God had not been kind in recent years and the harvest has been a third of what it normally is. Religious people were talking about something happening in the Realm of the Gods, that Chaos was trying to push past the barrier to feed on the world.
The Gods barely managed to defeat the Empress of Chaos last time, it was only the fact that one General and three of his followers turned against their Ruler and helped the Gods of Light. Those Immortals were named The Honour Bound by the followers of Light and Order. The followers of dark and chaos called them the Anoki or unspeakable ones.
The Honour Bound had slipped past the borders of the Realms of Chaos and set up barrier stones. The Sun and Moon Gods activated them and the Starlight Barrier was formed. The Empress has been trapped for the last two thousand years.
This did not matter to Robert at this precise point in time, as he could feel his wife's distress. Robert was not a hunter by any means but he could still manage to catch a few rabbits or if he was lucky a deer to help feed his family. Today though he didn’t come back with any Game, he came back with an extra mouth to feed. Robert felt guilty, but there is no way that he could just leave a defenceless babe in the woods. He had heard it crying and went to find the source of the sound. He was shocked to discover a baby with purple eyes and a few strands of bright red hair on its head. He quickly wrapped the baby up in his jacket and headed home to his farm.
“Are you even listening to me?” Shouted his wife.
Robert's eyes snapped back to his wife, who was the foundation of his life. Robert had fallen in love with Lana as soon as he saw her. At 5 foot 6, she was of average height with a round face and brown eyes. When she let her Chestnut hair down it reached her hips. He loved stroking her hair in private moments. The Gods of light or chaos had not blessed them with a child until now. He knew that it was not so much the fear of lack of food, but the fear of motherhood. He stepped up and hugged his wife. He placed his lips to her ears and whispered how her it was going to be alright and that she would be a fantastic mother. That the Gods had given his child and we should not dishonour them by rejecting this gift. Richard then gave her a quick kiss on the forehead.
Lana knew that he was right she’s always wanted a child but was never able to carry one. This was a true gift from the gods. She looked at the sleeping baby, and she realised that she didn’t even know if it was a boy or a girl. After a quick careful examination, she realised it was a baby girl. She also noticed that there was a strange birthmark on the babies right shoulder. On closer inspection, she noticed that it was in the shape of a crescent moon.
Lana went into a room and opened a trunk. Ever hopeful of being able to carry a child she had made a few baby things including blankets. As time went on, her hope had disappeared but she could not give away the things she had made. She took out a blue blanket she had knitted and gave it a good shake inspecting that it was fit for its purpose. She then gently move the baby from the jacket to the blanket and wrapped the child in the blanket. The baby protested and opened her eyes. Lana gasped when she saw that the eyes were purple. She suddenly felt love swell in her heart and knew that this babe was her daughter.
“ What shall we call her Robert? “ Lana asked.
Robert smiled and said, ‘Well, I found her under a Jasmine bush. Maybe Jasmine or Jamie for short ?“
“Jasmine? Sounds good to me. Now you hold her, I got a lot to do!“ Lana said happily.
Realm of the Gods "You promised me! Where is she, where is my Mate?" Richard demanded as he ran his hands through his dusty blonde hair. He was incredibly frustrated and frankly pissed off. He had done what they wanted and set up the starlight barrier stones. He'd waited over two thousand years for the dam Gods of Light to keep their promise and return his Mate! Richard hated being in the Gods’ of Light Court. It was too bright and airy. Richard looked around and saw there were various animal gods staring at him curiously. He much preferred being in the mortal world to look for his Moon Child, not here! But after 2,000 years of searching, he was d
Realm of the Gods - 14 years ago. "You found our daughter! " Boomed the Sun God as he stood up and raced toward the Forest Goddess, whose eyes opened wide with shock."Where is she? I command that you tell me now!" The Sun God demanded fiercely. The Forest Goddess stammered as the full force of the Sun’s God aura was on her. "My, My Lord ....she is in the Northern Forest in the mortal realm. In acountry called Riverwell." "We shall go to her now and bring her home!" The Sun God replied with a smile. "We have waited for her for far too long.."
14 years later, Jamie’s Home "Look what you've gone and done, you bloody idiot!" A shrill light voice sounded. Jamie was slowly moving towards conscious, but still felt she could not open her eyes. "Too heavy!"she thought. Jamie identified another voice and they sounded very defensive. "It is not my bloody fault, she called me! I am an elemental God, and I carried out her wishes! It is not my fault I destroy the area!" The voice said. "Sounds like a fire Ma cooks on!"Jamie mentally mused. "Yo
Jamie knew that Fairbridge was three days on horseback, which meant a week on foot. Luckily, her hunting knife, bow, and bag had not been damaged. She had walked for over a day and this was her second night in the forest. She had managed to make a fire and was cooking the rabbit that she had caught. "See Ma and Da, I can cook!" A faint smile formed on her lips as she roasted the rabbit. "You know they are dead, right?" An old female voice said. Jamie jumped up and looked around. She saw an old hag with bright blue eyes and crooked teeth. "Who the fuck are you?" Jamie said and felt a sharp tap on her head. "This crone just hit me!" she thought, shocked as she rubbed the point of impact. "Is that a way to speak to your elders, Luvie?" The Crone pointed out. Jamie looked at the old woman. "Apologies, Elder, I was not expecting you in this forest at night!" She said as she bowed her head to show respect. It was true, her behaviour ha
The next morning, Jamie woke up and did as the old woman asked. She looked into the embers of the fire and saw a bead the size of a large marble. It was completely black, but when held up to the light, intricate spirals of oranges, yellows, purples, and reds could be seen. There were also two holes going through the middle, so a string or chain could be put on it. Jamie was not a big jewellery fan, but she had a leather neckless with a small wooden heart on it. It was a gift from her father on her 10th birthday. She quickly untied the leather knot and threaded the black stone and put the whole thing back under her top. Jamie packed up camp and carried on walking. The next four days passed without any incidents. The only strange thing was that Jamie kept having the same weird dream where the old woman was shouting at a v
The last few days of Jamie’s journey went without any more rescues. Fluff was able to hunt for himself and would sit on Jamie’s shoulder. Fluff would often meow in Jamie’s ear and Jamie seems to be able to understand what Fluff was saying. “You're a strange cat Fluff, but I am glad you here!” Jamie mused. She wanted to stay in the Forest, but she promised her Pa that she would go to her Uncle’s. Jamie saw her Uncle Tyrone quite often until he remarried five years ago. His new wife and stepson looked down on Jamie's Ma and Pa. Uncle Tyrone owned the only Pub ordrinking establishment, as his new wife called it, in Fairbridge. The Pub was called The Crone’s Head and was located on the only main road in Fairbridge. Fairbridge was a small town that was on a key road to the Capital City of Riverwell. The town survived on the travellers, but like everything else in the last few years, trade had died. Farmers and tradespeople use to make th
Realm of the Gods,Starlight Barrier Richard’s POV She is running in front of me, her long red hair streaming behind her. "You can’t catch me, Richard!" she shouts and laughs. Her laughter is the sound of the sweetest music I have ever heard. I chase her through the Elemental Forest heading towards the waterfall and bathing pool. "I will catch you and punish you mercilessly!"I thought and smirked to myself. I willed my legs to go faster and faster. Years of military training wereproving useful. Finally, I catch her and have her in my arms."Do
Two years later. Fairbridge - The Crone’s Head Stable Loft Jamie, as per normal, was woken up by Fluff licking her face."Get up, lazy bones. You want to go to the Temple before she finds you!"Fluff mind-linked. "Fluff, I just want five more minutes! " Jamie moaned and turned over in her straw bed and snuggled deeper under the two old horse blankets. Jamie's loft space did not have luxuries, it was always cold and damp. Fluff was g
