I turned. Kai stood in the doorway, barefoot, wearing only dark sweatpants that sat low on his hips. His black hair was still damp from a shower. Water droplets clung to the hard lines of his chest and shoulders. And his eyes—usually so carefully controlled—had gone completely black around the edges. He inhaled once, slow and deep. Then he went very, very still. “You’re in heat,” he said. His voice was rougher than I had ever heard it.

Alpha Magnus reacted beside us, while Kira was panicking, wanting to stop it. “Alright, that’s enough.” alpha Ace said. But as soon as Gusev withdrew, he was instantly knocked down on the ground. Well, that was my thoughts and expectation but instead, Kai was just quiet and letting it happen, which triggers something inside me if he indeed loves me. I rolled my eyes, “I said, don’t make fun.” Kai looked really good too. He had showered, he had cut his hair. It was even shorter now, with a fade ont he side. And he had trimmed his beard a bit. He was wearing a white dress shirt, with rolled up sleeves and black trousers. Kai took my hand in his, “feel it through the bond. That dress looks amazing on you.” All I felt coming from Kai was lust. He wanted me right now and badly. But there was something else too, which felt a lot like love. Maybe my Kai was still in there somewhere.

Rai growled, causing Nowell's smile to falter. "But we are soulmates Rai, you can't keep us apart, I love him," Kaen snapped angrily back, his Reaper eyes starting to glow impressively. Rai's black smoke bellowed around him as he changed to his Grim Reaper. "I will keep you apart and you will abide by my rule or you will suffer punishment for your insubordination," Rai growled fiercely, causing Kaen to drop to his knees and lower his head in submission. Nowell rushed towards Rai and placed his hand on his arm. Rai glanced down at him questionably with a scowl.

But peace was proving elusive. Kai had emerged from the guest room twenty minutes ago wearing nothing but black board shorts that hung low on his hips, revealing the sharp V-lines of his abdomen and the kind of sculpted body that belonged on magazine covers, or in sinful dreams.
