it teleported. One second it was twenty feet away. The next, it was swinging the blade at Silas’s head. "NO!" I roared. I didn't use a weapon. I used the change. My right arm shifted completely, the chrome scales expanding into a massive, jagged claw. I blocked the energy blade, the impact sending a shockwave through the room that shattered several of the glass pillars. The machine paused, its silver screen flickering. "Analysis error. Subject 01 is exhibiting non-simulated organic-metallic growth. This is not possible."

“Okay?” She nodded. “Come court me.” His eyes rounded at her. “REALLY?” he nearly shouted. Mable ducked her head and hoped no one was watching them. Jared took his hat off and tossed it into the air. Then he stepped close and grabbed her up. He swung her around in a fast spinning circle. “WHAHOO!” he shouted. Mable gasped and watched the green of the grass blur around her as he spun her around wildly. Well, so much for being discreet. “Dammit all…Jared!” she complained. He stopped the spin and laughed. “Well…Hot damn! It’s about darn time!”

The flames turned into jagged shards of orange glass that fell and shattered on the ground. "We can't get close, Emma!" Félix shouted, his daggers useless against the void. "It’s not a physical cold! Laila shouted, her silver skin exploding into a blinding star as she thrust her blade forward into the chest of the remaining soldier. The silver energy from the ancient well surged through the metal weapon, entering the soldier's body in a violent, kinetic pulse. The liquid crystal array along his spine flared a bright, unstable blue before it shattered under the celestial voltage, the violet light in his eyes vanishing as he collapsed into the snow, finally free from the network.
