Little me was in desperate need for love and affection, she was praying Kennedy and Robert would be a mommy and daddy. Finally came the cake, it was a chocolate cake, what little would say no to a chocolate cake, I had a generous slice that I devoured happily. Next was opening of presents for Robert he had some good ones and others he just closed back the box and gave his friends the third finger making me giggle. I stayed silent watching him open all his gifts giving thanks to each one for the none offending ones, lastly was Kennedy’s gift, it was the book she got from my job. He must he a bookworm like me. My little side wanted him to read me bed time stories.

He flipped open the book she had just read, which was no longer a boring and tasteless medical book, but a comic book written by Jimmy. Blake was naturally not interested in these childish things, but he continued to flip through them one by one, rubbing his fingers on the pages as if Avery's body temperature and smell were still there. When the book reached the last page, the title page was filled with a short poem: "We watch fish love birds, cats love mice, dinosaurs and frogs, princesses, and princesses, we see meteors fly past, we watch trees bloom, and I cannot wait for you to fall in love with my miracle!"

"I'm gonna guess that's not the way his mom remembers it." She smiles and reshelves the book. "That's actually a really sweet book. And if Chance was older, I would buy it right now. But he's turning one." "So?" I follow her as she walks around to another shelf. "So right now he's going to do two things with books… eat them and tear the pages. We'd better get some board books." We spend the next several minutes looking at books that are very obviously written for babies. Most of them have only one picture on the page and are a quarter of the size of a regular book.

she said with some annoyance. "Cassarina, you'll know the book I'm talking about once you see it. Just open your eyes," the woman said. Cassarina stared at the old woman who had come to be her mentor and teacher in her black robe. She sighed and got back to work. As she checked the middle of the shelf, a certain book struck her observation. It had the title The Kingdom Itself: Snails on it. "That's a strange name for a kids' story," she whispered but bypassed it and continued the search.

But deep down in her heart, she knew that she had not been careful at all or else she would not end up pregnant. Later that afternoon, a package arrived at her mother’s house that stole any remaining piece of her heart that did not already firmly belong to him. The box was wrapped in white paper with a big blue and white striped bow. Inside there was a book but it was not just any other book. It was ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. The book pictographically described the evolution of a caterpillar eating its way through an array of food to eventually pupate into a beautiful butterfly. It was a gift from her grandmother back when she had been a kid however when Ella and her mother

The little goblin stood this way, the book held tightly in her hands, her lips moving silently. "Well?" Mike asked after nearly a minute had passed. "Tink doesn't remember." Shoulders slumping, Tink handed the book to Mike. "Maybe husband figure out?" "We'll see." Opening the book, he was surprised to see the words swim across the page, the text fixing itself in place before his eyes. Expecting some profound piece of magic, he realized he was looking at a fairly simple recipe for peanut butter cookies. Flipping back and forth, he saw that the recipe was the same on every page.

I stopped at the library door and smiled to myself. ‘Books are better than people. Books don’t hate on you for something you didn’t do.’ I pushed the door open and breathed in the wonderful smell of books. ‘Paradise.’ I strolled to the shelves and scanned through the books, reading their names off their spines. ‘It seems Dante wasn’t joking when he said half of his library was filled horrors.’ A book caught my eye, and I pulled it from the others. “Bone and Souls by B. Brian.” I read the name aloud and skimmed through the description behind it. “This seems interesting.”

I kept thinking about how we got in here and fell asleep here but I couldn't really remember so I just ignored it. I pee and after that I washed my face then I turned my gaze to the mirror. I'm looking at my face when I noticed that there was something in my neck. My heart beat faster when I realized what it was. Shaking, I raised my hand to touch the one on my neck. "How did I get this?" My heart was beating fast and I felt like I was going to fall over. I was convincing myself that it was just a bite of a mosquito but no, it was a bite of a wolf. I slowly sat down on the bathroom floor and fixed my own hair.

What a spiteful little man, she thought. Caitlin wasted no time. She cracked open the first book, an old tome from the nineteenth century, thick, leather-bound. As she turned its frail and brittle pages, she went into speed-reading mode, reading the pages faster than she ever had in her life, looking for keywords, places, locations, ideas. Anything that would lead to another book, another idea, another lead, another clue. Anything with substance.

Maybe I just needed to take it one step at a time. I picked up a few books, leafing through them slowly. There was one that caught my eye—Baby’s First Year: A Journey of Love and Growth. It was filled with gentle advice, but it was the illustrations that drew me in. The little smiling faces, the soft colors, and the reminder that it was okay to feel unsure sometimes. I tucked it under my arm and kept looking, feeling like I could breathe for the first time all day. An hour later, I was sitting in the bookstore’s small cafe, a cup of tea in my hands and a pile of books next to me. I wasn’t rushing to go anywhere, just sitting in the quiet, letting the calm settle in my chest.
