He orders two dinners, while I order one, but we both order food with a lot of carbs.

I’ve put the spinach in the skillet, pulled the potatoes out of the oven and I’m setting the table when Dad and Liam return. Liam grabs the bottle of wine and potatoes to put on the table and I spoon the spinach into a serving dish, bringing it to the table. I sit next to Liam and we dig in. I have to admit, the bear isn’t bad. It has a bit of a gamey taste to it similar to venison, but it’s more hearty like beef. There’s a whole pig cooking over flames, and at least five other styles of meat are being served along with it. They’ve also got an enormous buffet of catered food and are dressed up in outfits too. There’s a zombie brain of pasta meatballs, a freshly dug grave of meatloaf, and gray food-dyed potato mash.

We stop in front of the kind of well-worn, hole-in-the wall diner, most would probably overlook. “This,” I say, gesturing my hand like Vanna White, “Is a city landmark.” He raises his eyebrows. “9th Street Basin,” he says, reading the sign. “I’ve never been.” I pull him inside. “You’ve been missing out.” We settle into a corner booth, looking over plastic menus of the ultimate comfort foods, like pancakes, cheeseburgers, and fried chicken- all the staples - and of course, slices of pie - just about any kind you could want.

“We’d be here all day if I started that long ago. I’ll start from recent and lead us up to yesterday. Deal?” He gave a small nod and Leah began to speak about her life with Jason.
