The door was solid oak with heavy locks. Beautiful, comfortable, and absolutely inescapable. Perfect. I reached carefully into my elaborately styled hair and extracted a small crystal, no bigger than a pearl. The communication device pulsed with soft blue light as I activated it with a whisper of power. "I am in," I whispered quietly. Static crackled for a moment before a familiar voice responded—rough, commanding, tinged with the kind of darkness that made smart people run. "About time, little wolf. Status report."

he replied quietly. Kai didn’t let go of my hand as we walked toward his car. His grip was firm, not painful, but it felt like he needed to make sure I was still there, like he was afraid I might vanish if he loosened his hold even a little. I didn’t try to pull away. I didn’t even think to. My mind was still reeling from everything that had just happened. The way his eyes had turned black, the way his claws had appeared, and the way he had looked like he was barely keeping his wolf at bay.

The edges were as sharp as a knife that can cut through anything. I marveled at their elegance as examined them more. The claws curved gracefully, resembling the talons of some mystical creature from a fantastical realm. Their beauty was captivating, almost hypnotic, and it was impossible to tear my gaze away from them. The contrast between the silvery-blue claws and my own skin made them even more striking. It was as if I had acquired a piece of the night sky itself, crystallized into this exquisite form.

Long, slender arms extended from the darkness, ending in hands with elongated, razor-sharp fingers—claws ready to seize their prey. Across his body, thick, dark fur shifted as if alive, radiating an aura of dread and terror. A black hood covered his head, concealing any trace of a face or identity; only shadows danced beneath the fabric, revealing the absence of eyes, a mouth, or any human features.

There really was someone in there. "You had your chance," I grunted, before stepping closer and closer to the brush. Suddenly, I caught rapid movement, a blur of black, from the corner of my eye. I swivelled, swiping the claw in the air. Moonclaw was capable of impaling anyone, anyone, in just one swipe. It's why I always kept it with me. The night was still pitch black, but the more agitated I got, the easier it got for me to see clearly. My gut wasn't liking this situation at all.

The wolf turned toward me slowly. Its crimson eyes glowed in the darkness. Saliva dripped from its jaws. Something about him felt familiar. Hybrid? I searched for signs of vampiric traits but found none. Then my eyes caught the strange black marking smeared along the side of his abdomen. A handprint. Recognition slammed into me instantly. [Black Claws!] I barked through the mind link to Leo. My fury exploded. [Fucking bastards! What the hell are they doing inside our territory?!]

Terror-stricken, she pleaded with me, begging me not to harm her, her eyes drawn to my hands where sharp claws had emerged from each finger. In that moment, as I gazed into her terrified eyes, I realised that she probably had never encountered claws like mine before. Her fear only fueled my desire to have her as my own, to claim her. "Lucious please! Claire?!!!!!" Just then, her screams grated on my nerves, irritating me further. I wanted her to be silent, to be only mine. With a guttural growl, I raised my hand towards the air, showcasing my menacing claws. The intention was clear; I was going to hurt her, maybe even end her life, so she couldn't call out for Claire anymore.

“It suits you… Although your neck would look even prettier with my hand wrapped around your throat.” I could barely resist a shudder. Still, I held his stare. “Well, I don't appreciate either option.” A savage grin stretched across his lips. Then he lifted his hand, and my breath caught as I saw his claws coming out. Gods, I had never seen claws like that… They were black, their edges gleaming like polished steel. I froze as he lowered those claws to the iron collar, and—

Though blind, Zephyr’s senses were sharper than anyone else’s. His unfocused eyes seemed to fix on my sleeping face as he spoke calmly, "Put your claws away. The scent on her… is wrong. "The soul inside this body is not the same as the one who got us killed in the last life."

Silence swallowed the cavern. Then the ground exploded. A massive black claw burst through the stone floor. The impact sent everyone stumbling backward. Another claw followed, then another. The beast dragged itself from the darkness with a roar that made my blood run cold. It was enormous, twice the size of the First Wolf. Its body was covered in scales as black as midnight instead of fur. Jagged silver horns curved from its skull and its crimson eyes glowed with ancient hatred. Most terrifying of all, it had no pupils. Only endless red. The creature inhaled deeply, then its gaze locked onto me. "The Keeper..." Its voice sounded like rocks grinding together. "So the bloodline survived."
