I’ve never seen his succubus side before; it’s utterly breathtaking. Smoky tendrils burst from his back, lashing around him and colliding with the demon’s. One of Caleb’s tendrils catches the demon on the cheek, and dark blood surfaces like tar. With his magic holding everyone else at bay, the demon touches the blood trickling down his face and snarls.

A shadow demon suddenly emerged directly between us and the tent. Rhys cursed sharply beneath his breath. The creature rose slowly this time, black smoke rolling off its body while its shining black eyes fixed directly onto me. Not Corin. Not Rhys. Me. Its stretched mouth slowly pulled wider. Like it recognized me. Fear locked my body in place for one terrible second. Then Corin and Rhys moved at the exact same time. Blue and green crystal light flashed violently together through the darkness as both blades struck through the demon at once, tearing it apart into a violent burst of black ash.

Then she saw the true form. Her heart felt like it was going to explode. She had never seen something so hideous. It was a demon. “I’m Deon,” The voice echoed in the still sky, causing a great earthquake. Clary’s mind quickly pushed her back into reality and she let out a scream as she fell on the floor in her room. She was breathing very hard and her heart was pounding in her chest. Her mouth was dry and sweat dripped off her forehead. She took a few seconds to gather herself, she could not shake the image of the demon out of her head. It was a demon, she was sure. What else could it be?
