Someone had come in straight from the rain, and they hadn’t wasted time. The first man appeared in the faint spill of moonlight from the window. Black clothes, no insignia, face covered by a half-mask. His steps were careful but fast, his hand close to the weapon at his hip. Raven was on him before he could clear the holster. Her blade caught the moonlight for a heartbeat, then disappeared into his side. She didn’t kill him not yet. The man went down with a muffled grunt, his body jerking as she wrenched the weapon from his grip.

And most of all, there was her scent. I picked it up immediately now that I had a wolf. She was a panther shifter, like william. William gestured for her to join us, and she stepped forward. “This is Raven,” he said. “She’s here to join our cause.” My breath caught in my throat. Raven. The name was familiar, but it took me a moment to place it. And then it hit me. “You’re Raven Blackwood,” I said, my eyes widening.

I wanted him. Raven Blackwood. Raven Blackwood was the son of my father’s best friend Richard Blackwood. He was twenty years old this year. He followed after his father’s steps and took over his business just at the age of eighteen. He had dark hair, which looked sharper than shadows, and his gray eyes. Well, they looked like some storm that was on the verge of destruction. Everyone admired him and feared him. And me? Well, I was no exception either.

Ravenna collapsed onto her bed, exhausted from the night's events. She reached into her clutch and pulled out the two business cards she'd acquired. "Soren Blackthorn, Alpha of the Blackclaw pack," she read aloud, then turned to the other. "Rylan Moonstone, Alpha of the Shadowmoon pack." She sighed heavily, tossing the cards onto her bedside table before forcing herself up to get ready for bed. As she changed into her pajamas, her mind raced with thoughts of revenge and the complicated web she was weaving.

He excused himself from the meeting and led me to a quiet corner of the dining room. "This is a letter," I began, pointing to letters from The Raven. "It shows that Gray and Blackwood were part of something bigger. There's a bigger connection at play here." Nathan frowned mentally and studied the letter. "The Raven... I've heard that name before. It's a nickname for someone who is shady underground, who orchestrates high-level criminal activity but never gets directly involved." A chill ran down my spine. "So Gray and Blackwood were just pawns?"

’Good morning staffs, I would very much like to make this meeting a very short one’ The manager tells us. ‘For the new staffs who do not know the boss, this is mr. Jones Black, C.E.O of Mars private hospital, which you all know has branches all over the continent’. The manager says, addressing the fine piece of art beside him. Mr. Black just waves at us, a light smile on his lips which makes my breath hitch. I know I am sounding like a hopeless romantic right now but I can’t deny the attraction I feel towards this man. ‘Oh. My. God! He looks even more stunning with that smile’. Goldie says, twisting a strand of hair around her finger as she stares dreamingly at Mr. Black.

She was holding her phone like it was a live wire. “Lana! Have you seen this? It’s all over the business and clan feeds. News from the Black Raven pack!” She thrust the phone at me. On the screen was a series of photos. Damon, dressed in formal, imposing Black Raven ceremonial robes trimmed with onyx, stood at the center of a grand hall. He wasn’t smiling. He looked severe, powerful, utterly in command, surrounded by rapt-looking elders and warriors. The caption called him a “long-absent dignitary” and speculated on the “significance of his sudden return.”

At this point, we have all slowed and started lagging from the few days on the move. Before we get to the town, four wolves step out into the street, blocking our way. When it is clear they have no intention of moving aside, we come to a halt a few feet away. We tense as one wolf shifts. “We know who you are, Raven Hale, of the Black Moon pack. And we will not let you go any further. There is nothing you can do to stop this war. This is the end for you and your friends. Then your pack and you goddess will soon follow and meet their fate.” He wastes no time shifting back into his wolf.

Guns. The raven purge has begun.

“You think this is over? You’ve only broken the lock. The thing beneath the Black Moon stirs, child. And it remembers your name.” Kaelira’s blood ran cold. “No,” she whispered. “The Echo was the last of it. I destroyed it.” “You destroyed its shell,” Varyn said. “But its heart — the true Black Moon — was never in this world to begin with. It’s waiting. And it’s calling you home.” Zevran stepped forward. “Then we’ll burn your god a second time.” Varyn’s expression softened, almost pitying. “You can’t fight the storm, boy. You can only drown in it.”
