Just as they did, Elara from Cade’s pack pulled out a bow and arrow, aiming straight at Zyra’s back. In a heartbeat, Zyra’s senses heightened. She spun around, her hand snapping up to catch the arrow just before it reached her face. The Nightshade pack’s Elara stared in disbelief; her eyes wide with shock. Zyra let out a low laugh, the arrow held firmly in her grasp. “You’ll have to do better than that,” she said, her tone mocking.

He was still a good distance from her when the sound of human growling caught his attention. “Kendra!” he shouted as he pushed his legs out of a jog and into a dead run. “Look out!” She turned just in time to see three a****n zombies coming out of a thick grove of trees. Her heart lurched at the sight of their once beautiful faces turned gruesome. Wasting no time, her body reacted as if on autopilot. Pulling an arrow from her quiver, she secured it in her bow and let it loose. It landed in the stomach of the nearest zombie, but did nothing to stop her slow, but steady approach.

A pitch-black arrow shot out from nowhere, slicing past the tip of Chase's nose before embedding itself into a nearby tree. The fletching at the tail end quivered slightly, emanating a dense, ominous aura. It had been coated with an incredibly potent poison. The arrowhead was jet black with faint arcs of electricity crackling along its surface. Chase's expression darkened as he recognized this weapon. The Netherworld Thunderbolt Arrow—a weapon specifically designed to exterminate demonic entities. "Damn it!" A flicker of fear crossed his eyes as he instinctively leaped back, widening the distance between himself and the zombie soldier.

Then arrows filled the air. Not magical attacks—simple, wolfsbane-tipped arrows launched from the treeline. They struck with brutal efficiency. One pierced my shoulder, and my power shattered instantly, the pendant's light dying. I collapsed with a cry of pain. "Aria!" Zack caught me before I hit the ground, his own body jerking as an arrow struck his thigh. More warriors emerged from the forest—not Silvermoon wolves but official-looking soldiers wearing Council insignia. At their head was a woman in formal robes, her expression cold and bureaucratic.

I was a little relieved to find out the emotion wasn’t lost to me. On the far side, archers stood with their bows raised, the string drawn tight, arrows slicing through the air in clean succession, hitting the wooden targets with dull thuds. Their precision never ceased to impress me. Though, it was one of the things we were best known for. Watching it all play was satisfying. It fed to a prideful part of me.

Once I reached the top, I nocked an arrow, my eyes narrowing as I took aim at the necromancer's advancing forces. With a deep breath, I let the arrow fly, watching as it streaked through the air and found its mark, piercing the skull of one of the undead minions. The creature let out a haunting, guttural wail, and I felt a surge of grim satisfaction. Quickly, I nocked another arrow, my movements swift and precise as I continued to rain down a hail of projectiles on the necromancer's forces. Each shot found its mark, and I could see the tide of the battle beginning to turn in our favor.

Prepared to get my stuff and walk towards her whereabouts, yet froze upon hearing an odd noise behind the huge tree before me. I equipped myself, held my bow, and positioned the arrow—ready to shoot. The atmosphere became silent and I heard my heavy breathing, "Terra, where have you been?!" A gasp escaped from my mouth as I felt a hand travel up my shoulder which gives chills down my spine. I accidentally let go of the arrow and it voluntarily released toward the thicket.

Hundreds of arrows, with their tips bubbling with a sickly green, lethal silver poison, descended toward the place everywhere. Duncan was still pinned on top of Malphas, his claws buried in the giant’s throat. Zach was on his knees at the edge of the ring, panting heavily, his small body completely exhausted after unleashing his royal roar. Heidi stood right behind him, her small hands clutching her brother’s shirt, her eyes wide with fear as the deadly rain fell straight toward them.

These were different—longer, heavier, tipped with some kind of glowing substance that left trails of light in their wake. They slammed into the feral wolves with devastating accuracy. Three of the beasts went down immediately, the arrows punching through their thick hides like they were made of paper. The others scattered, their formation breaking. "What—" Tiana spun around, searching for the source.
