A sleek woman in black combat armor stepped through the smoke, pistol raised. “About time you triggered the emergency beacon,” she called out. Adrian blinked. “Who ?” “Her name’s Lira,” Sera said. “My mother’s most trusted assassin. She’s not here for tea.” Lira raised a detonator. “Move, lovebirds. You’ve got sixty seconds to decide if you want to die looking pretty or live ugly.” Sera yanked Adrian toward the side entrance. But as they ran Mira’s voice followed them. “This isn’t over, Sera!”

At the center of it all, a massive black wolf tore through enemies with terrifying efficiency. Damon. He'd come. He'd found us. Caleb pulled me toward the edge of the camp, Mira stumbling behind us. Finn fought at our side, covering our retreat. We were almost to the trees, almost to safety— A figure stepped into our path. Sera. She was in wolf form now—a massive silver beast with eyes like ice. Axel stepped forward and stared at her like he could worship the fucking ground to her and rage steamed in my chest. "You're here."

And I would not let it harm me, or my family. I blinked to see Damon staring back at me with sadness and hurt in his eyes. For a moment I felt bad for him before I pushed the feeling away. I had other things to focus on tonight, besides I didn’t even know him. “Hello! I would like to formally introduce myself as Sera. Alpha Erik’s only daughter, future Alpha of this pack.”

With Reynard’s approaching steps, I pushed back and away from him in confusion and fright. "Tell me which one is the true Serena? The one I am looking at now, who cares and is open to showing her emotions, or the one who only likes to follow Daxon’s lead." As he stopped in front of me and explained his question better, I understood he had yet to find out there were more shades to Serena than he could ever expect. For instance, Serena, was in contact with him all this time when she was in her sister’s body. "Oh!" I looked down to take a deep breath.

“Tell me now, so I can move on with my life. I have wars to wage, kingdoms to conquer.” Sera smiled back, admiring his pugnaciousness. “But you can’t conquer anything until you first give me what I want,” she reminded, enjoying having him in her power. He frowned back. “And what if I don’t? You can’t stop me. I am a vampire now, as powerful as you.” “Perhaps you are,” Sera retorted, “but I can summon an army of vampires to destroy you in an instant. You can’t run or hide from all of us.”

“And what have you done to harm Storm Pack?” The first question was easy. The second was loaded. I blinked a few times, trying to clear my mind of any fear. Now was the moment I had to be at my best. “My name is Serena.” I cleared my throat, trying to rid the shake from my voice, so I could speak with more confidence. I didn’t want to tell them I came from the Pack Alliance. That might wrap Baird in with me. “I am on a special service and I would never do, and have never done, anything harmful to your pack.”
