Puffs of steam from our breath dissipated into the icy air. The big black wolf came to a slow stop with the white wolf and was shortly greeted by The most unique, and dare I say handsome colored wolf I had seen. A rare mutation of chimera coloring. One half of the wolf was a dark brown, almost black. The other half is not quite silver like King Kellen’s but more blue but also just as big as the Kings. Like two sides of a coin. The same but not. The wolf's eyes shone a golden color, piercing and dangerous.

About twenty meters away I spot them, or more to the point I spot him. Clayton Blackridge Alpha of the Lobo Sombra pack in his huge gun metal grey wolf. Standing to his right is a brown and grey wolf slightly smaller in height and not as muscular, possibly his Beta. My wolf starts stalking towards them and even though I am protesting she wants him. As I get closer he shifts back then the other wolf turns I realise he is giving us some privacy.

Guided by her intuition, she followed the invisible thread that led her to a secluded part of the forest. There, amidst the dense foliage, she discovered a sight that both captivated and saddened her. A lone wolf, fierce and untamed, roamed with a restless energy. The creature's coat which must have been once vibrant and sleek, was now matted and unkempt. Its eyes, once filled with life, held a haunting glimmer of enormous pain. She immediately recognised him as the last surviving member of the Blackwood pack.

So Nikki’s wolf could be a combination of the two or entirely different. My wolf, Kolt is black with a partially white muzzle. Like my human form, Kolt has blue eyes, however mine are a lighter sky blue and Kolt’s are a richer royal blue. Kolt’s gift is speed and even though not every wolf has a gift, I am hoping Nikki’s wolf has one. I have been daydreaming about their first run today.

She started before Gray interrupted her directly. "When is the next one, grandma?" Gray reached for the mug of hot chocolate on the small table next to them and slurped the content loudly. "The next turn of the century will be in 3 years. Now, where was I?" Perla uttered with a warm smile. She knew there would be many more questions to answer along the way. "The Ice Wolf." He reminded her, pouring the last of the hot chocolate into his wide-open mouth and gurgling it before swallowing. "Oh yes, this rare white wolf is gifted with supernatural abilities that surpass us original werewolves."

If that was an attempt by the previous owner to make him look a little more presentable, sellable, then it missed the mark by a mile. “First up we have Werewolf number N17M115. A rare wolf from the Northern Mountains. Born in the wild, this fighter wolf has his instincts intact. Captured when he was 5, he was trained from a young age and has been fighting ever since hitting puberty. He has only ever lost one fight…” Jackson tuned him out. He didn’t want to hear it or else he’d be purchasing more than one wolf today.

She continued to stand. I searched her face, nothing to be found as usual, she was great at keeping her secrets, “alright then. My patrol had an interesting discovery in the forest last night. A white wolf with glowing blue eyes by the river.” Tasha nodded and sat down, not saying a word. “What do you know about it? I remember the stories you told me when I was a pup. Are they true?’

And more beautiful. I draw air into my lungs and let out an imitation of a wolf's howl. My voice breaks out and echoes through it. And then - the voices of the pack. With a wolf howl, they respond from different directions. No more than a minute passes, and werewolves come out of the forest towards me. The first is a huge light wolf. No one dares to step ahead of him. The confident gait of the alpha, the ears are straight, directed forward. Nearby, everyone else is trying to lean a little to the ground, their tails are lowered and their ears are tucked in. My Hachiko.

Rage and loss filled my body, transferring more energy into my storm. Ghost whimpered behind me. My emotions had disrupted his fight, and the large gray wolf took advantage, getting on top of him and snapping his back leg with its powerful jaws. Before I could move, an impressive salt and pepper-colored wolf sealed its jaws on the great grey wolf’s neck. Ghost disappeared while an aggressive fight continued. The two wolves were evenly matched, showing their lethal moves quickly.

A magnificent silver wolf, its fur glistening in the morning sunlight, stood tall and proud, its presence radiating power and controlled fury. For a fleeting moment, I thought it might be Nate, a beacon of salvation in our darkest hour. But as the wolf stalked towards the approaching rogues, a strange sense of unease settled in my stomach. This wolf was larger, with a battle-scarred face and piercing blue eyes that held an unsettling familiarity. It wasn’t Mate – but who was it, and why was it helping us?
