“We’re going to have to update the maps, Tal.” All four men came to a standstill and stared over the grasslands in amazement. A homestead streamed smoke steadily through a stack-stone chimney. The building itself had been built of mud-packed logs, creating a sturdy, rustic appearing, comfortable home. A fence contained a herd of sheep, frisky lambs dancing in between them in play. From the half-built barn to the side came the sound of construction, two men visible as silhouettes on ladders. “Trying to finish before the season turns,” Thaelen murmured.

It was wood that had been painted red long ago, and had a deformed black roof sitting atop. The only thing out of place was the huge wooden doors that sat leading into the barn.

Another voice suddenly cut into the call. Marcus. “Our girl is strong as fuck,” he said firmly. “So fucking trust her.” Something warm twisted painfully in my chest hearing that. Brian nodded once to himself before continuing. “There’s an old barn out near the pass on 62/180. Take the Butterfield Trail exit. It’s several miles back in there so you won’t see it from the highway, but once you hit the right road, you can’t miss it.” His expression darkened. “They’re likely gonna be heavily armed and heavily manned. So be prepared.”
