The Dual Claim
The laughter grew more hysterical, almost frantic.
I pulled myself off of the couch; my muscles protesting each movement.
Slowly, I made my way to the hidden room and stairway leading down into the basement.
My hand gripped the railing. I felt like an old man descending those stairs.
Once I got to the bottom, the woman’s gaze shot from Kane to me.
Her laughter’s pitch grew higher, almost maniacal.
Her eyes turned milky white, losing their sight of the current world and off into another.
