Ablaze
I ate until I could burst, squirming in my seat as our chatter became less easy, our eyes shifting nervously to the scattered papers.
"We can't avoid it forever," Alex said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I wish we had more time."
"But we don't, we have to do what we can, Theo."
"What have we got?" I asked, breaking the invisible barrier between us and the looming treaty.
"Same old," he sighed, "Eye for an eye, mate for a mate. Only the sacrifice of the opposing Alpha's mate will end the bloodshed."
"And Alpha Rhodes doesn't have a mate," I echoed, agonizingly, "unless miraculously he manages to get one in the next four days."
