"As long as your eyes are still okay, it's not a big deal, right? The doctor said it wouldn't have much of an impact. I just can't bear to see you become blind. Celine had constantly told me how painful a blind person's world was, and I was really starting to lose patience with it." Realizing he might have been too harsh earlier, Cedric softened, trying to soothe me. "I thought you were purposely trying to make me blind," I replied sarcastically, ignoring Cedric's attempts to appease me. I walked with Cedric toward the hill behind the house where we often went for walks. As my vision faded from blurry shapes to complete darkness, I realized the sky had already turned dark. If I should have followed my instincts this wouldn't have happened to me. "Don't worry I won't do anything to you. You can trust me. Let me sign your discharge papers, before I return, you should be ready," James' voice pulled me out of my thoughts. What do I do now, i don't even know where my duffle bag is. Jake still didn't know that I was blind, so after he came back to escort me out, that was the moment when it happened—where i had mistakenly walked into the wall and hit my head pretty bad.

My heartbeat slams against my ribs like it wants out. I try to twist. Bite. Knee him. But he’s fast. Precise. Calculated. His hand covers my nose. I jerk violently, but the cold air doesn’t reach me. It’s like drowning in plain sight. My limbs slow. Everything blurs. Colours fade. My head slams against metal. The side of a car. Pain explodes behind my eyes. Then darkness. Faintly, I feel myself being lifted, tucked in like fragile cargo. A low murmur of voice echoes near my ear.

As the man stands straight up, Cassandra manages to raise her foot up in a swift motion, and with force, she kicks the man square in the dick. I watch as the blade slips from his grasp and his hands move over his groin. I reach my foot out and lightly kick the blade away from his reach.

He pushed me down into it, wrists still bound. “Stay.” He walked away. My thighs squeezed together. He returned a moment later with a black scarf—satiny, smooth. A blindfold. He wrapped it around my eyes before I could object. My world vanished into darkness. And then… nothing. He didn’t touch me. Didn’t speak. I sat there, tied, blindfolded, aching. Waiting. My skin burned from the anticipation. My breathing turned ragged. A soft exhale behind me. Then a whisper in my ear: “You’re already unraveling.”

Not because I blinked. I went blind. It took me a moment to accept the fact that I had lost my eyes just after reading the first line! My breath seized. “What—what’s happening?” I whispered, reaching out into space. “I can’t—I can’t see—I can’t see!” Panic clawed up my throat.
