I will not be the first to blink. We stare at each other, holding our gaze, neither one of us daring to blink. My eyes feel like they are being scraped with sandpaper, but I will not yield. Aria looks between the two of us. “Have you two gone and completely lost your minds? Stop this right now!” she says. I look at Johnny, his face just gives me more motivation. I will never blink again. Silence fills the air as the competition becomes fiercer. Johnny and I sit unmoving.

Her hands and legs spasm. She struggles to get up from the wooden floor, stumbling back down, the darkness in the room is overwhelming. A small ray of light coming from the window situated in the corner enables her to see. She crawls to the corner chasing the light beam. Her heart skips a beat as fear creeps in. What am I doing here? God help me! Creaks trigger her adrenaline. The door opens as a result. Oh No! She is petrified, someone enters the room, the tapping effect produced by stilettos closing in. She discerned the fear within his eyes, a fleeting pang of sympathy gripping her briefly. Swiftly, she suppressed this sentiment, acutely aware of the necessity to remain attentive, her guard impenetrable. Arabella unleashed her yellow beams, the fifth level of power. Orga cried out in pain as he was struck once again, his own beams flickering and fading away. "Bella, you need to stop," Blaze said, seeing the fury in her eyes.

Bryar put in their birthday date and it opened. They all walked in and Blakeley fell to the floor immediately they got in. “Mummy.” Bryar cried and held her bloody hands. “It's okay, I’m fine.” She muttered. Bryar’s cries were all she heard before blacking out.

It roared to life with a guttural churn that only made the bile rise higher in Arah’s throat. “Oh, this?” Lexi crooned, catching Arah glaring at the blender. “It’s a special smoothie for my baby.” Arah grimaced. “What kind of vile stuff are you feeding that baby?” “Relax.” Lexi waved a hand dismissively. “It’s just animal blood and bile.” Arah froze. Her pulse quickened at the awful possibility that struck her like a slap. She spun around, rushed out the front door, and darted straight to Barky’s doghouse.

Her heart was pounding very fast and she still felt the fear that she had felt in her dream. She got up from bed and went to drink water.

Her eyes darted to the device’s interface, which displayed two large buttons: one red, one green. Her thoughts spun in a maelstrom of urgency and uncertainty. The red button—the color of blood, of vengeance, of the explosive fury that Arika had unleashed—seemed to beckon with a promise of obliteration. Meanwhile, the green button pulsed with a quiet light, subtle and steady—a promise of life and safety. In that frozen, inhospitable moment, every second felt like an eternity.
