Marcus smiles, warm and reassuring, before pushing himself up from the chair. "It's okay." He moves toward the shelves, fingers skimming over the spines of old books. "Now, about Queen Meredith. I was just about to send this to Bloodthorn, but I decided to wait until you arrived." He pulls out a thick, leather-bound volume and flips through the pages before retrieving a brown envelope tucked inside. He slides it across the table toward me.
I pick it up, turning it over in my hands before carefully breaking the seal. The paper inside is stiff, the ink dark and rust-colored: blood.
