Chapter 29: The Last Stand Alpha Callum’s POV The air was thick with the scent of smoke and blood as I stood on the battlefield, my mind racing, my body burning from the brutal fight. My pack was scattered around me, fighting with every ounce of strength they had left. The rogues were relentless, overwhelming in their numbers, and despite our best efforts, we were losing ground. The chaos of battle swirled around me—shouting warriors, the clash of metal, and the earth beneath me shaking with each strike.

I just found where I'm going to spend the rest of my time while Keo is absent. I spend at least half an hour inspecting as many books as possible before one piques my interest. It's particularly old, written over a century ago. By the looks of it, it details some Angel-blood history regarding Demon's. Lugging the book upstairs, I lay it on my bed, flipping the cover open. I take my time scanning the small text, learning about the war, about Angel's depiction of Demon's. It's rough, hearing how they detail the mass death's, and how they justify it.

I uttered again and again, my hand parallel to each other, and on its center is the formed symbol of death on fire. If this is what it takes to avenge my loss, I don’t mind giving my life. “Ophelia! Don’t do that!” Queen Romina cried, but I only continued. “Mea vita pro morte sua…” My life for his death. The moment I opened my eyes, I felt like I was reborn in new and more powerful body. I could feel the overflowing energy on my veins, the heat of fire around me, my soul aching for blood, and my every nerve screaming for death.

Avina. The woman who once destroyed empires, who bent kings and warriors to her will, who walked through fire and left kingdoms in ruin. I had not seen her in this life, not truly, but in my blood there was memory, and in those memories her face was carved like a flame into stone, my hand trembled as I reached for the book that bore her mark, the crest of fire and ash burned into its leather cover. “Yes, mater. I will serve ye until my last breath.” I sighed, running a hand through my hair as I pulled my thoughts away from Jones’ past. I only knew this because I’d gone through the history books kept in the cellar, stumbling upon a journal from the time of Grace Bloodsworth. Her tone had sounded regretful as I brushed my hand over the dark red-ink, my eyes eating up the sorrowful words. I knew without a doubt that she had use her own blood to write it.

“And what do you think happened to that man? Kieran couldn't even protect him. Do you want that to be your fate?” Her hand reaches out, running her long manicured fingers hovered over the book that triggers the hidden door. My blood turns to ice , I close my eyes, bracing for the lights to hit me. CRASH the sound of people toppling over, the doors were torn off their hinges, the sound of shattering wood and squeaking metal ripped through the suite. I didn't see him at first, but I felt him. The air in the room was filled with the scent of rage, thick with primal so primal it made my wolf curl into a ball of terror.

Lucian’s POV The battlefield reeked of blood and smoke. Bodies lay strewn across the clearing, the grass matted and torn from claws and steel. My wolf prowled inside me, still restless, still hungry for more. The enemy Alpha’s blood coated my hands, my arms, even the curve of my throat. The victory was ours, but the rage refused to ease. Then my gaze fell on Cara.

Isla's POV The battlefield stretched endlessly before me, a grim tapestry of blood and agony. The air was thick with the metallic scent of blood and the relentless sound of cries of the wounded surrounded me. The battlefield was more brutal and unapologetic than I had imagined. Everywhere I turned, there was pain; warriors writhing on the ground, their screams echoing through the chaos. This was carnage. I was engulfed in the harsh reality of war; suffering, death, and heartbreak. The wounded came in waves, their pain etched into their faces. Despite my growing skill at treating injuries, it never felt like enough.

Chapter 102: The first rays of dawn spilled over the battlefield, revealing a landscape forever altered by the night’s brutal struggle. The enemy, though repelled, had left behind a haunting silence and a bitter tally of loss. The Blue Moon Pack’s warriors, now bloodied and exhausted, gathered around the battered remnants of the defense line. Each wolf bore scars not only on their bodies but in their hearts—a reminder that every victory in battle came at a steep cost.

The next few pages show how the wolves didn’t eat the child, but took her with them. Then the illustrations jump to a battle scene, full of death and carnage. Bodies on the ground, and what looked like people and beasts fighting each other. Page after page showed carnage and blood, some images might be a little graphic to have in the Library to be honest. “If this book is about war, then what does the girl surrounded by wolves, from the first page have to do with anything?” The more I look through the book the more confused I become by the first few pages.
