On her eighteenth birthday, her mother and grandmother told her the secret about Zeru’s birth and gifted her something her father left for her. Zeru’s mother, “Your father wanted me to give you this on your eighteenth birthday as the coming-of-age gift. It is a precious heirloom that he got from his father, and now it is yours.” Zeru took the box in her hands. It was a gold-plated rectangular box. She slowly opened it and inside there was a large white diamond pendant. Zeru carefully looked at it and said, “It looks like a diamond but it isn’t one, mother. Looks more like crystal.”

The box was carved with ancient writings, probably Greek or Latin. It was black and was not much bigger than a jewelry box. I opened it and found two pieces of jewelry. One was the sun ring I was looking for, and the other was a bracelet I had forgotten about. It was a silver chain decorated with ruby diamonds. Those diamonds were capable of resisting compulsion from any Genesis Vampire.

The pendant was a stunning crescent moon, adorned with intricate filigree and vines, mirroring the exact design of Raziel's mark. The necklace was crafted from solid 14k gold, and its surface glittered radiantly in the light. My heart fluttered at the thought of being marked by him, but for real this time. Azraiel’s brows furrow. “Can I see them?” He asks Charlotte. Charlotte nods, probably thinking about the contents revealed from the bag. He carefully picks up the lilac cloth and sniffs it. The smell is faint but still present. An indescribable look covers his face as he passes the fabric to Theo. “Tell me if you think the same.”

He rested his palm on my thigh while he read the little note I wrote him. Do you like it?” I asked, biting my bottom lip.

It wasn't flashy. It was a fine, heavy platinum chain, and suspended from it was a small, perfectly smooth, cylindrical pendant. It was about an inch long, simple and discreet, crafted from dark, polished titanium—a material that absorbed light rather than reflecting it. It looked expensive, minimalist, and completely anonymous.

“A murder present. My favorite.” Still, curiosity was a stronger drug than fear. I carried it inside, set it on the counter, and untied the ribbon. Inside was a pendant. Silver. Heavy.
