At its center lay a shallow basin carved from black stone, its surface slick with something that reflected no light at all.
Blood had been poured here.
A lot of it.
The air tasted bitter, metallic, and beneath that, something sweet and wrong.
“This is where they bound it,” Ben said quietly.
“No,” I replied, stepping forward. “This is where it was invited.”
Around the basin, the walls were etched with scenes. Wolves kneeling. Wolves burning. Wolves crowned. Wolves broken. At the far side, one carving stopped my breath entirely.
