I didn’t feel sick, I just didn't feel normal. The sound of it ripping echoes in the cell, wet and brutal. Gregor’s body spasms once and twice and then goes limp. His eyes roll back, and whatever life is left in him disappears. Sophia drops what’s left of his heart to the floor like it’s trash, like he’s trash. It’s over. The darkness in the room shifts.
