Since he’s staring, I decide to stare a little too. Starting with his sandy blond-brown hair, his forehead wrinkled in thought and jeez, even his muscles have muscles. He’s wearing well-loved jeans and a white T-shirt that hugs all of them, leaving very little to the imagination. But when I meet his eyes, my entire body goes on alert. I’ve never seen eyes like his. Not even in all the creatures we photographed around the world. One is a shocking cerulean blue, the other as green as the first blades of grass in spring.

Emerson POV The words sliced through the murmurs around me. They weren’t the worst ones. “Don’t look at her,” someone whispered urgently, too close to my ear. “Snake-eyes bring bad luck.” Another voice followed, lower, fearful. “That’s why the Alpha hates her. You don’t stare at things like that and survive.” My stomach twisted. Several pack members turned, their glares sharpening. Some looked away quickly, like my eyes might infect them if they lingered too long. One of them bared his fangs and lunged forward, his steps heavy and deliberate.

But this is no ordinary snake. Its thickness is twice the size of my body, it’s length so long that I can’t even see the trees. Its eyes are red. My breath catches. Shit. Its eyes are red. The same as the hellhounds!

And then he does. I feel fingertips skimming my hip, feel his presence looming behind me. Before I even turn around, I know it’s him- it’s like he’s radiating dominant energy. I allow my body to melt back into his, meeting every hard line of his chest and torso as I finally peek up at him over my shoulder. Blue. That’s what color his eyes are. They’re a light greyish-blue, his irises darker around the outer edges. Beautiful, like him.

The second snake demon was also intensely furious. Evania was quite shocked and astonished seeing a third monster appearing right in front of her eyes. This third monster was blue all over his body. He got two long pointed horns, two dark red eyes, and his two sharp canine teeth. But, not knowing why, seeing this third monster, Evania wasn’t as shocked and frightened as seeing the first and the second monsters. Evania could simply sound out her monolog underneath the quagmire of her thought, feeling as well as perception.

Our minds already had a plan on how to eliminate this giant snake. We began chanting in Latin. Our eyes both sparked in different hues. Mine was sapphire blue while Orora's were shining orange. Our eyes automatically raised while our fingers were spreading. The chant was getting louder as the wind was getting stronger. However, the snake didn't even flinch. It was just staying alert. Its eyes were focused on us this time, but it was not doing anything. Its tongue was moving, though, and it was hissing nonstop.

Snake’s obsidian eye was glowing feverishly. “Get her, that pregnant little wh*re, Bianca.” He smiled, revealing missing teeth and Aaron Wyhte hid his shudder of revulsion. But fear of how Snake might react forced him back to his seat. “What?” questioned Wythe belligerently, his hackles rising. “We need to get her here.” Snake rubbed his hands together, his one eye blinking rapidly in excitement. Wythe forced himself not to look at the gaping black hole that was the other eye as he listened. His heart pounded loudly as he listened to Snake’s outrageous plan.
