Mike and the big boys were studying some kind of blueprint under one of them, hard hats on, while four other men worked around them.
The housekeeper saw me drive past the gates and came to meet me in no hurry.
“Hey, Mike, how’s everything going here?” I asked, climbing out of the car. “Did they say when they’re starting to work?”
“They’re just setting up shop, Miss. You should ask Bob about their plans.”
“Bob,” I repeated. “As in—”
“Bob the Builder, yes.”
We looked away from each other to swallow a giggle. He was a completely different man when Susan wasn’t around. One with a sense of humor, for starters. He walked me to the tent, where I met the older of the two big guys from the day before
