It felt like a breath of fresh air after being suffocated in a tight space. I slept soundly on my own, without passing out, even more than when I slept off after visiting Zin. I could feel petals flying over my head and butterflies surrounding me. They weren't regular butterflies. I knew they weren't butterflies at all but gemstone butterfly pixies born from the willow tree to take care of the plants. They were hiding from me in their butterfly form. I wouldn't have guessed they were pixies if Drix didn't mention it one time. I would have only suspected that they weren't normal.

Just as I was ready to leave the beach, my stride was interrupted by the pitter patter of feet crunching in the sand. A pixie appeared nearby, eyes too large for its face, pointy ears, shimmery wings flapping lightly as it moved. Pixies are small in stature and this one was only the height of a five year old. Its tiny figure was holding a scroll too large for its body, swaying as it approached me. And as soon as the scroll lay in my hands, the pixie twirled and vanished, leaving a trail of dust and glitter in its wake.

She said her name is Pixie. "I am lost!" And again she bawls which Mizuko rushed to say she was kidding. It stopped Pixie right away. "Well, how long has he been gone?" "Not too long ago actually." Pixie has pink long hair with highlights of sky blue and yellow. She has rosy cheeks and flowers were tucked against her hair. The flowers were mostly everywhere. She has a pale skin and she looks like a cute doll. Only she looks sassy. "Why are you--"

“You are?” The pixie answered with her nose and lips pointed out. “A pixie as you can see. And I say you will only pass through the gate if you answer three of my riddles.” She carries this green vibrant pair of eyes, a strange floral mark on her forehead, and a band of weaved leaves around her head. Wearing all in lime emerald shade, her hyaline wings, her runty grass-like dress that cuts off in her pygmy knees, and her leafy shoes that extends up to her patella. She has this white crystal-like hair braided so long that it outgrew her size, pfft. “What are you laughing about?” she again voiced that I chuckled the second time.

My eyes crossed and I sat up quick, seeing a blur of the stars drip down in the space before me, flying throughout the air and zipping over the grass and around trees like bullets fired out of guns. I stuck my hand out, catching one of the flying stars, the white, bright light flickering around my fingertips in hectic fashion. I brought the fallen star to my lap, holding it in my palms. It had a face and little, crooked wings. “It’s a pixie,” I breathed in shock. “Oh, moon goddess… a pixie!” The little star stood up fast, wobbling around my palm, her little feet stumbling over one another. I tried to help her up by nudging her upright but she fell forward, exhausted.

Pixie continued to ignore Esther, her gaze wary as she looked at her. Esther pretended to ease the tension by patting her clothes and joking, "Pixie, Mommy is not a bad person." "You're not my mommy!" Pixie's gaze turned fierce. "You're a bad person." Esther was momentarily taken aback. She chuckled awkwardly and said, "Pixie, how about we have some water? Or juice? Milk? Anything you want." "I don't want any!" Pixie was tightly wrapped in her blanket, and her chubby face was red from the warmth, with hair stuck to it. She resembled a red apple hanging on a tree branch.

I wondered to myself if Bjorn had heard that his charge is also fae. I giggled to myself, she is more powerful than he is, but he is protecting her. We may have things backwards around here lately. I wasn’t sure if Helga would still be a werewolf since she had already transformed as fae. A pixie’s powers mature within 6 months before their 18th birthday, you can tell when their wings appear. She has large white and blue wings and very pale skin. She looks a bit like a butterfly, a cabbage white, but in humanoid form. A pixie. They rarely venture out of Tara, but when they do, they tend to stay in remote or abandoned places. “I’m sure they are,” he agrees with me as he holds up a clean bone saw, dangling it above the body, moving it up and down as he talks as if he were holding a book or some other random object and not something designed to cut through layers of flesh and bone.

Their hair looked like soft fur, trailing down their backs, and white moth-like antennae twitched above their wide, alien-blue eyes. They blended so perfectly with the flowers that I never would’ve noticed them if they hadn’t moved. “ Pixies,” Corin murmured. “ They’re so small,” I whispered, fascinated. “ Small and sneaky,” he said under his breath. “ Keep an eye on your pockets.” I laughed quietly, but then froze again when something shifted near the trunk of a tree. The bark… moved.
