“Yes, like a wimp.” Lucas is quiet for a while. I expect him to open up, but of course, he doesn’t do that. Instead, he moves to the side of the bed, and I know exactly what he is saying without speaking, “Move your ass over here and read me another book,” is what his body language tells me. My lips form an amused smile, and I whisper. “Would it really be so bad to admit you like hearing me read to you?” “Yes...” “Why?”

Welcome back.” He said and I nodded as I sat on the couch with Charlotte on my lap. She leaned in to whisper something funny in my ear and I laughed out loud. I peeked at Caleb and his body language told me all that I needed to know. His fists were clenched and his eyes were twitching uncontrollably. He kept tapping his feet on the floor, and all these are tiny moves his body involuntarily makes when he's bothered, annoyed, or angry.

His eyes were two blades of desire and discipline. "I provoke to reveal. Every reaction from you is the body answering before the mind. Your palms are sweaty. Your heart is racing. Close enough to smell the clean scent of her vanilla body wash, to see the way her pupils dilated as I closed the distance between us. Close enough to see the way she flinched, just slightly, barely noticeable, when I reached for her wrist. Her heavy breaths clung to my skin, seeping through the flesh like they belonged there. The movement was so subtle most people would have missed it. But I'd spent years learning to read body language, to spot tells and weaknesses. And that tiny flinch told me everything I needed to know about how she saw me right now. As a threat. As someone who hurt her.
