As soon as she scattered wolfsbane powder over the wound, the blood turned purple-black. Nina thrashed within me, but she couldn't manifest at all. The only sound she could make was a faint whimper.

Just as the Blood Bat King was about to continue speaking, a look of surprise appeared on his pale, colorless face as he suddenly glanced at the Bones King. "Hey, you seem to be injured? I felt something warm on my torso so I looked down only to notice my clothes getting wet with a warm red liquid that was coming out of her stomach. I was unable to comprehend the situation, rather I felt like everything in my brain just froze. I looked up again and noticed how the light in her eyes had faded. Something behind her moved and my gaze followed her as she lifelessly fell to the ground. I blinked at her several times then raised my head and looked at the beast standing there with his claws dyed red and meat stuck in the nails. There was something noticeable on him, he had a scar on his forehead. He had ruptured her insides from behind.

I can hear the vicious screeching of the Nazgul, their hoofs echoing on top of the tunnel roof in an attempt to up-root, or rather, collapse it. I doubled my speed and I noticed a movement behind me. Taking a glance back, I can see a skeleton emerging from the ground. Thankfully, the reflection of the sun was illuminating the tunnel, so I was able to see them and plan my move. Instead of a normal human skeleton, this one has red eyes, a rapier instead of a bone hand, and equine sales. One of them looks in my direction, then he controls a huge boulder towards me. I quickly turn to another path in the tunnel, and the boulder narrowly misses me.

Red liquid drops off them and they settle on the bottom of the socket. I step back and grab the mattock. I pry some stone away from the clavicle, a cracked scapula and the tops of the humerus. They were abnormally small in comparison to the skull, as though the head had grown, but the body had remained the size of a toddler’s. The bones had scratches all over them, indicating the marks of trauma. I retch and swallow the taste of vomit. “Rita?” Boris calls from the other side of the safety tape.

The creature's body was slime-like, yet it seemed to have short limbs and a small mouth that produces a harsh hissing sound when it opens. "Don't call them junk," the elderly professor replied. Struggling to stand up from sitting on his chair, he gently placed the book he's reading on his desk, which was also filled with empty laboratory flasks, notebooks and pens. There was a stain of spilled ink covering the upper corner of his disorganized table. His hair and beard are almost white, with visible streaks of gray, and along with his crumpled and stained lab coat, they all seemed to have been unattended for a long while now.

At first he thought it was just another bone. There were plenty of bones down here. Animal bones. Crawler bones. Things he preferred not identifying. This one was different. It sat on a stone altar near the back chamber. Protected by nothing. Just sitting there. Waiting. Nero frowned. It looked... Ordinary. About the length of his forearm. Dark ivory. Old. Very old. Carvings spiraled around its surface. Tiny symbols. Thousands of them. Not decorative.

He crouched over the skeleton, hands hovering as if he wanted to touch it, but he didn’t. “The bone density appears to be consistent with a young woman in her late teens,” he murmured, half to himself, half to us. “And look at this—” He pointed at something near the ribcage I couldn’t make out from where I was standing. “The marrow crystallization pattern. I’ve never seen this outside of a laboratory sample. This is genuinely remarkable!” “Harrison,” Tyler said flatly. “Right. Yes. Sorry.” He straightened, but he was still looking at the bones with awe on his face.
