If one is not interested in reading the whole book, he/ she can opt to read the brief writing and bam! He’d be conversant about the three-hundred-page novel enough to not only talk about it in public but also put forward an opinion. For many busy Alphas like me–it is nothing less than pure magic. In less than twenty-five pages, it instils confidence alongside quotation and so I have been surviving in the ‘society; with my envious intellect.

Nikolai to his workspace and the book he was in the middle of. Anya went to her workspace and opened the second book. She wrote for two hours. The writing had the quality it had when it was going well — the quality of thought arriving in language rather than thought being translated into language. The direct connection. The sentence that was already the right sentence before she’d decided what she was going to say.

“Really.” I flushed, hiding the book underneath the blue top the chief maid had brought over. He doesn’t deserve an explanation from me. “I didn’t think you’d end up learning from my first production.” The sound of laughter fades in the background. “Production?” I stammered. “Yeah, I wrote this book to teach all of the Alpha’s Omega how to get him riled up.” He didn’t look like it, but he didn’t seem to be lying with the way he folded his hands and felt like a best-selling author.

What the Book Became She wrote it over fourteen months — not the Tuesday practice of the personal record, but a daily practice, morning hours at the study desk before the council work began. The book had a different quality from everything she had written before because it was written from rest rather than from urgency. Not ease — rest. The specific quality of someone who was inside the thing they were describing and had enough distance from the urgency of building it to see its full shape. The book had twelve chapters. She had not planned twelve chapters — she had let the chapters arrive in the order they arrived and counted them when she was finished.

As I put the cup down on the table, I power up my computer and start making concepts. Two hours later, I find myself writing page fifty-four. It is not much, and it is far from finished but it’s progress. Even though I am writing a non-fiction book, where you do not have to use your imagination as much, you still have to be creative about how your story takes shape in the way you assemble the words. Writing is an art and it shouldn’t feel like a chore, so it’s enough for the day. I save the file and shut down my computer.
