she scowls at me as I stretch feeling my body ache due to the weird posture it was in for heavens knows how long. Isn't it already obvious? I can't believe I have been dreaming about the thirtieth book when the old pamphlet in front of me that is wrinkled is the only thing I remember picking from the shelf when I entered inside the damn thing. I must have been tired after the whole crying. "What time is it?" I ask. "It's nine in the morning." Dhalia replies. "What the fuck!" I exclaim horribly. I have been inside here than I imagined.

My phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number: *Welcome back, Eva. Did you miss us? Tonight you choose: save your husband or save yourself. You cannot have both.* "Who is this?" I typed back. *Someone who has been very patient. Someone who watched you run away to play house in California while real work needed doing. Someone who is tired of waiting.* Another text. A photo. Albert in handcuffs, surrounded by angry Reapers. Blood on his face. Defiance in his eyes. *Midnight. The old warehouse where your mother died. Come alone or he dies.*

She let out a breath, shaking her head as she left the chair before pointing at me. “Let me break it down for you to understand. The bookshop you lockpicked— don't even fucking argue against that. I know for a FACT thai I locked it— and intruded on is MINE and it's on the other side of this room which I ALSO own because I own the entire BUILDING.” She huffed indignantly.

“So that way.” 16B was a much larger section than I expected. Still, it made sense since wolves were always passing down stories to the younger generations, true or not. “Found it,” I said. It took forty-five minutes but I found a book on the Moon Blessed that was not a kid's bedtime story. “When the Goddess becomes a man,” I read out the title. From the cover, I could tell it was still a fiction story for the most part. But it was better than nothing at all.

Bodie cooked a meal like it was his own place. "What are you reading?" Bodie asked when he saw Luna totally engrossed from the book she's been reading from the moment she sat down. "Nothing," Luna answered. Bodie opened the faucet and filled the pot with water, and then he spoke, "Talk to me, lady. It's awful quiet. I feel awkward." "I did not ask you to come--"

I am in love with Kenna and it has taken me three years of a shitty marriage to her and her divorcing me to come to terms with the fact that I have acted like a total dick. At first, Isaac wasn’t willing, he wasn’t about to put Kenna into an arranged relationship-marriage situation. He shook her from his mind and pushed open the doors to the study. The rug-lined room was bigger than B’s above-garage apartment. Floor to ceiling bookshelves dampened any noise B might made in his whiskey search. There didn’t seem to be a single inch of space on any one of the shelves. Books of all colors, textures, and sizes were packed together. In front of the book spines sat hundreds of little treasures–seashells, pocket watches, glass figurines, and carvings of creatures. So many creatures. B let his fingers drift over the book spines: The Picture of Dorian Gray. The Catcher in the Rye. The Odyssey. Brave New World. The Call of the Wild. White Noise. So many stories he’d never read and

Chapter 18: A blank page The morning after the party the Brooklyn warehouse felt really big and quiet. The smell of the party was still fancy perfume and fresh flowers. It was like a memory that would not go away. Elena was sitting at her desk watching a boat move slowly across the East River. The water was dark. The boat was making it all frothy and white. On her computer she was looking at how books she had sold and what people were saying about The Vow of Silence.. The numbers did not seem as important as the ring on her finger and the quietness of the room.
