“Fantasy?” Came the uncertain inquiry through the bullhorn that sounded out loudly amongst the hustle and bustle of the crowded pier. “All kinds of books. I’ve ready fantasy, romance and everything in between. I’ve read Harry Potter probably more times than I can count.” “Harry Potter?” I chuckle. “Don’t diss on Harry Potter or I’ll turn this horse around.” I chuckle at her threat. “Do you read?” “I do, probably not as much as you but I do. I tend to stick to fantasy stories like The Hobbit or the Game of Thrones series.”

“Still sounds pretty dull compared to dragons and magic, though.” Sonia nodded because she was a bit relieved that the conversation was about to be steered back toward more safer and familiar literary territory. She then rattled off a list of fantasy recommendations for the kids for a while longer. Sonia and Darrell began walking back to the main event area where the bustling sounds of excited readers and rustling pages reigned supreme. “Age of Exploration is actually my favorite book too,” he said out of nowhere. “Really?” Darrell nodded, smiling, “Yeah, it's criminally underrated. I swear, I've never heard anyone else mention it before.”

He especially like those fantasy novels where he can enjoy the process of the character's growth, chapter by chapter. It gives him the feeling of being with the main character, venturing the danger and growing along with him. Lei smiled in satisfaction. As he was about to read the first chapter, something inexplicably came to his mind. He frowned, scrutinizing the book closely. He began to read the synopsis again from the beginning. Upon reading it twice, he suddenly fell into a deep thought.

My expectations of hefty magic tomes full of spells were quickly dashed. Laney’s idea of books was limited to fairy tales about princesses and knights and, of course, magic. Not exactly what I had in mind.
