The Biker's Rules
I lace my fingers through hers and step closer to the barrier.
Instantly, it’s open season.
“Is Damena for real now?” “How long have you been together?” “Do her brothers approve?”
I hold up my hand to stop them.
“Please, one at a time,” I try to bring some order to this chaotic situation.
Miraculously, silence.
“Three nights ago,” I say, “I asked Melaena to be my girlfriend. She made me the happiest man alive by saying yes.”
I look at her. She’s fiddling with the heart at her throat as if it might anchor her.
