Book Questions For Book Clubs Novels & Stories

The invitation arrives via email. It's from Lisette. The subject line says: "Book Club - You Should Come." And the message is typical Lisette. Direct. No preamble. Just: "I started a book club. First month we're reading your book. You should come read to us." I call her immediately. "You started a book club and didn't tell me?" I ask. "I'm telling you now. It's six women. We meet once a month. This month we're reading your book because it's important and it's brilliant and I want to talk about it with people who will actually understand why it matters."

Once situated I pull the bag onto my lap and open it, pulling out the contents that are wrapped in a dark red velvet cloth. I hand it to Lamia and explain what it is. “This came to me from your Uncle. When we were searching for a way to bring you and Kellen home he brought this to me in hopes it might hold a suggestion or a piece of our missing puzzle.” Lamia slowly unwraps the item her eyes lingering on the cover of the leather-bound book as she takes it in. “It didn’t hold anything that would help bring either of you back to us but…” Her long fingers glide over the cover, over the burnt inscription on the front. “This is Nessie’s?” She says with wonder, “Ascenas diary?” Lamia looked up at

Goldstein said. “That’s a good idea,” Rayvin agreed. “You know, Rayvin. You should come to the book club in town,” the older woman said. Rayvin tensed up, and she felt Mikael squeeze her hand. “I don’t think I’m a book club person,” Rayvin said. The mayor and his wife chuckled. “Neither am I,” she confessed. “They have been reading the same book for two years,” her husband said with a grin. “Yes, well, Gossip and sherry club just doesn’t have the same ring to it,” Mrs. Goldstein said, making them all chuckle.

“She was the one who wanted to back off.” “I asked about you, Lilith,” he said exasperatedly. “Think about yourself for once?” “Not like I’m suffering because of it,” I said pointedly. “My name hasn’t been in the papers for a while.” “I guess that’s a good sign,” he agreed. “What about the club? My assistant’s been getting some responses.” “So did Lyra and I,” I nodded. “I think we should have a welcome event soon.” “That sounds great,” he said. “Somewhere around the holiday season? A lot of us go on a break during that time of the year.”

All the books had one thing in common: they all had sprinkles and bits of thrillers in them.

You will enjoy it.” He assured her. “What's the title?” She asked. ‘Clan vs Clans.’ I replied in my head, I have already read that book a trillion times. I just read the latest edition some weeks ago. “Clan vs Clans by Sable Stormbringer.” He replied. “So Thalia, if I am permitted to call your name?” He asked and Thalia nodded her head in response. “Okay then, I will be taking my leave. I have something important to handle. You should get back to your room.”

Trixie POV *The next day 4th period* I entered my leadership and development class which was becoming one of my favorites recently and took a seat next to the same boy and girl that I had been in my math class and talking weird the first day. I overheard them talking. “I think this would be so cool!” I heard the girl say. “I mean I haven’t bought in yet but Ill read the first book and give it a try.” I glanced over and then back down on my desk there were flyers about a book club meeting after school today and once a week. I stood amidst the crowd, staring into space, hating the feeling that had enveloped me. Elated. I was supposed to be elated. Running a book club for senior citizens? This was my dream come true. Among the people I loved, what more could I wish for?

Compliments passed back and forth, smiles filled the air, and the amount of giggles would make you think you were at a teenager’s sleepover talking about the hottest guy on Teen Vogue. And I must say that it was a nice day. Book club went off without a hitch, and the exchange of ideas fueled more conversation about home, family, work, and life in general. And then we heard it. The salsa dance. The library was closing in thirty minutes. Again, now in fifteen minutes. And last call, time to pack up and go.
