Until he engulfed me into the biggest, longest, best hug. It was almost like he fixed all my broken pieces.

Because everything—every moment of the last six weeks—had been a lie. The man I loved was dead. My daughter was gone. And I had been living with an imposter the entire time. Miranda appeared behind Thomas. "Now you understand. Now you break. And when you are broken enough, you will give me everything." She was right. I was broken. Completely. Finally. Irreversibly broken. And there was no one left to save me.

As I tried to move it, to watch the writing on it, the mug slipped from my hand accidentally and smashed to pieces on the ground. For a few moments, I could only stare between my mother's name on the chit and the broken glass shards; until I managed to grab a hold of myself and started cleaning up the mess. A realisation burning in the back of my mind, as I gathered the broken pieces. Sometimes, all that's left for us to do, is collect the broken pieces. Because like things; relationships once broken can never be completely put back together in the same way, no matter what. ———————-

🥀 CLARA'S POV 🥀 My heart felt like it had been shattered into a million pieces, each one piercing my soul like a shard of glass. The pain was overwhelming, a crushing weight that threatened to consume me. I felt empty, and hollow, like a part of me had been ripped away. Every breath I took felt like a struggle, every beat of my heart a reminder that the person I love would never love me back. My heart was broken, extremely broken, and I didn't know how to put it back together again. All I could do was hold on to the fragments, and hope that someday, somehow, I would find a way to heal.

Now they were ash. When I finally calmed down enough to look at Colton — really look at him — I saw something I wasn’t ready for. Pain. Longing. A desperate ache that made my chest tighten. He wanted to be the one comforting me. He wanted to be the one I ran to. He wanted to be the one I trusted. But I’m not ready for that. I’m not ready for him. I’m too broken for a mate bond. Too damaged for something that pure.

If I'm alive, I'm worth something. Parts of me have been stripped away. I've transformed into a puzzle, one that needs mending. When I'm complete, I can see the whole picture. It was 8:30am. "I have to go check on Noel.." I mumbled. I got up from bed and brushed my teeth and headed out of my room. I stopped in my tracks when I noticed Hazel sleeping peacefully on the couch in the living room with a book in her hand. "Did she fall asleep while reading?" I smiled and walked towards her. On my way, I ended up bumping into the marble vase on the table beside her and it shattered on the floor with a loud clank. Surprised by the loud noise, Hazel woke up and stared at me, and then at the floor where the broken pieces laid.
