Peaceful. Vespera Hale walked along the mahogany shelves, trailing her fingers over the spines of the books. Philosophy. Strategy. History. She stopped. On a shelf at eye level, nestled between The Art of War and a first edition of The Count of Monte Cristo, was a book she didn't recognize. It had no dust jacket. The binding was matte black, textured like volcanic rock. The lettering on the spine was silver, sharp and angular. SAVAGE REBORN.

After a few moments of uncomfortable scrutinizing, the staff members finally returned but without Master Arcade. They carried the book he had borrowed from the library, and stack of letters as well. He frowned at the letters. There were a lot of them, but he couldn’t remember who they were from. "His story aligns," one of them said. "We found this book under his bed and it is as he says. Wolfsbane and medicinal herbs.” The other one held up the letters. "We found these too.” Mrs. Doris took the letters, examining it closely. She opened one and read it. Her eyebrow went up again.

He set the paper bag on the table and said in a strained voice, "Heidi, this is that out-of-print art book you once saw at the foreign language bookstore. I got someone to track it down." I gave it a glance. Many years ago, I had stood in front of the bookstore window and stared at it for a long time. Clifton had said it was too expensive, then turned around and bought Jenna a limited-edition handbag at the same price. Now, he held the art book out before me, like some long-overdue attempt to make up for everything. "I pieced the scrapbook back together too, and I also cleaned all the photos. Heidi, I truly know I've messed up. Please come back with me," Clifton said.

How can he waste everything? He decided to leave. " I just need fresh air, excuse me!", he uttered and passed between them. --- Lucy and Gale, we're both quiet. Gale's eyes were studying her movement. He quickly ran to catch her when she suddenly falls while reaching the book on the shelves. They're inside his library and Lucy offered to clean it.

The clouds above were churning low, like a storm had forgotten how to break. At the bookstore, the front light flickered once when she unlocked the door. Then again when she stepped inside. The air was stale in a way it had never been before, like the whole shop had held its breath while she was gone. Shelves creaked softly behind her as she turned on the desk lamp. She froze. A stack of books near the window was toppled — somehow all collapsed outward in a perfect spiral. No wind. No draft. Just… rearranged. She picked up the top book. Dreams in the Soil. She didn't remember shelving this. Its leather cover was warm in her hands. Almost too warm. She opened it, just to check for a bookmark

Her aunt gives her a small smile and nods, Celine finds the bookmark and opens to the page. The woven bookmark has a faded blue tassel and was made of woven threads depicting wolves running in a forest, at the bottom of the bookmark was an old wolf’s tooth with a hole drilled through to be able to tie it onto the bookmark. She puts it to one side to look at the page it had been marking. It looked much like many of the others she had seen flipping through. But its words had her feeling like her world was slipping through her fingers and she was unable to do anything to stop it.

It was a refreshing change from talking about patients and their operations all the time. When it was time to leave for his meeting, Owen left her at the oldest establishment in town. A used bookstore specializing in rare and used books. While she was browsing, she thought of Mrs. Bennet and bought her a romantic novel set in France. Owen encouraged her to go around the square to shop for any trinkets or gift items she might want to purchase and promised to meet in an hour so he could show her the building he restored and introduce her to the owner of the restaurant.

Towel drying my hair, I walked back to the room with my bed. My eyes took in all the books that sat on the wooden bookcase. I let my fingers trail over the gold embossed letters on the spines. It was an impressive collection. ‘History of our past’, ‘Healing’, ‘Medicinal herbs’, ‘Charms and spells’ I walked to the window and peeked outside. The sun was already going down, painting the town in a pink hue. There were houses mixed in with shops but the roads were quiet. It seemed tranquil.

The cover of the book was so pretty and unique, I think it was still a new book, I was enchanted by it and I found myself digging into the trash to pick it out. I wondered what psychopath would throw away such a beautiful book, and so I returned it back to the library, the librarian took one look at it and gave the book back to me, he said they never had such a book and that was how I got to keep it instead. A small smile reached my lips, I am glad that I got to keep it, and how else would I have gotten this magnificent masterpiece to keep?

The librarian, a wise old man with spectacles perched on his nose, had greeted them warmly and invited them to explore the dusty shelves filled with ancient tomes. As Scarlett's fingers grazed the spines of the books, a particular leather-bound volume caught her eye. Its title, "The Prophecy of the Shifting Stars," called to her with an inexplicable pull. She plucked it from the shelf and dusted off its cover, revealing faded golden letters etched into the leather. Curiosity burned within Scarlett. She opened the book and began to read aloud, her voice barely above a whisper. The words flowed like poetry from her lips, resonating deeply within her soul.
