I shall sleep often from now on; my body needs all the rest it could get. I can’t sleep again. I just woke up. “What to do now?” My eyes landed at the closed book on my table. It’s the book from the library that is about the town of Emberton. I haven’t found anything informative other than the map and the founders of the town. Maybe I should just head out? Nope. Not a good idea. Being outside is too risky. I don’t want another wolf pouncing at me or me unintentionally killing them with my blood.

I need to take time. I remember the small room I entered last time. I slowly opened the door and turned on the lampshade. The books on the table were still scattered. I tried to look and read each one of them. These are all interesting books. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and a lot more. I tried to find something that might help me, but I found nothing.

They landed on the booklet the owner handed Flora earlier and flew away again. Flora did not move her sight away from the two visitors she had in her room until they left and grabbed that booklet. She sat up straight and closed her eyes. "God, please send e the right person to guide me in this place," she heartily prayed. She was hoping to have her break fun and totally stress-free. She needs to have a good companion to make it happen. Flora took a deep breath, and with her eyes closed, she opened the book. She slowly opened her eyes.

Chapter 1 Into the Wild The crunch of gravel under my tires faded as I pulled into the remote trailhead parking lot, the last vestige of civilization disappearing behind me. At twenty-six, I, Riley Bennett, had finally hit my limit. No more endless marketing meetings, no more crafting slogans for products I didn’t believe in, and definitely no more nights spent crying over my ex who had called me “too much” before walking out six weeks ago. As a burned out marketing executive, I’d traded my sleek laptop and high rise apartment for a beat up backpack, sturdy hiking boots, and a desperate need to remember what it felt like to breathe without deadlines crushing my chest.

The air felt heavier now, as if it carried more than moisture—something invisible and watching. His backpack lay half-buried in the sand, soaked but intact. He fished out the leather-bound notebook he’d carried everywhere since he was thirteen—the one with the stories, the nightmares, the dreams he could never fully explain. Inside were drawings of forests that bled, oceans that whispered, and a woman with hollow eyes and hands covered in roots. He had drawn her before he ever heard of WildWood. Before he heard the name Emily. Before he knew that she was family.

"Excuse me, Sister. The story of this comic book is not annoying but it's amazing!" Yesha defends her comic book. "Oh really? How is it amazing? A prince turning into a scary beast but the girl still loves her despite his looks? And he can't even recognize her and wants to kill her but she still loves him. Isn't it ridiculous?" She said while rolling her eyes balls.

Tonight, she wanted to feel it wrap around her. Her boots pressed softly into the earth as she followed the dirt path, but soon she abandoned the walkway and wandered off into the grass, toward the darker line of trees. Every sense in her body felt too sharp, and too alive. She heard all the rustle of creatures hiding, the way the damp soil smelled, and even felt the way the air became more cold as the last light of the sun went down from the horizon. It was supposed to calm her but it didn't.
