I make a mental note to read the book so we could have conversations about it, I wanted in on his mind and whatever he was thinking about. We talk about everything and nothing at same time, but the entire time, even with bitter chocolate ice cream in my mouth, I find myself at peace,

"It has been so right before our existence," Elder Festus states matter-of-factly as he pushes a big black ancient book to my side. I reluctantly go through the book, and after spending the least five minutes skimming through it, I can feel my breath getting caught up in my throat. In a rush, I slam the book shut before returning my attention to them. "How come no one ever told me?" My voice is rough and bitter, and lastly, it sounds accusing.

The particular rhythm of her professional voice, measured and precise, is different from how she spoke to me but not by as much as it used to be. She'd relaxed into herself over the winter.
